Daily Outfit – Christmas Party Shenanigans
Saturday was the most wonderful example of a perfect Summer’s Day here in Melbourne. The sky was intensely blue, there was barely a breeze and the temperature stayed around 26 degree all day. My ideal kind of weather, and it all was timed perfectly as we had a Christmas party to attend.
I cannot help but break out the Christmas colours and kitsch at this time of year, so finding all kinds of bits and pieces to pair together and create a look, can either be a challenge or an adventure. I chose to make it an adventure and cobbled together some op shop / thrift store finds and put together a casual picnic party outfit for around $50 all up!
Outfit Details (all thrifted)
Dress – MOne11 green cotton day dress
Cardigan – Portmans knit
Red 1960′s beads
Christmas holly earrings and Red roses from my stash at home
Bakelite and plastic bangles, also from op shops!
Lipstick – Lime Crime Velveteen “Red Velvet”
It turns out I wasn’t the only one to take the Christmas dressing theme very seriously. These musical Elves were totally committed to the look as they strolled along minstrel style.
It was quite a day of fun and games, as children ran barefoot or sparkle toed across the grass, making a bee line for the face painting and magician. Mr. SKM went for the zombie face paint, while my girls came back adorned with butterflies and Pikachu. In the spirit of “one in all in”, I agreed to have my chest ‘tattooed’ with swallows, which caused a number of sideways looks and a surprising number of compliments too!
Given that we only had one transfer and had to make do by turning them upside down, the artist did an amazing job hand colouring these and getting them to look so good in under five minutes!
Christmas in Australia is just so different to anywhere else in the world. Our weather, our fashion, our food and even the way we do casual glamour. the best way I can describe it for those in the Northern hemisphere, is to imagine you’re at a mini music festival during the height of summer. That’s the kind of vibe you’ll find here in Melbourne at Christmas time.
How would you describe Christmas or your holiday season where you’re from? Let’s live vicariously!
