Daily Outfit – A 70s frock gets some neon punch

Autumn is finally here!! I can finally wear sleeves and fabric heavier than chiffon! I know that by August I’ll be complaining of the cold again, but at the moment I have seasonal fatigue and I’m so over dressing for hot weather. I’ve spent my weekend evenings sitting on the sofa, greedily consuming images of gorgeous winter fashions, adding to ‘wish lists’ and creating mood boards on Pinterest. Ah the wonderful enthusiasm that each new season brings.

Today’s outfit is one I purchased over a year ago but has also never had the chance to appear on these pages. It’s a simple 1970′s jersey knit dress I found in a local op shop for $12. Such a perfect fit and drape, I picked this one up to wear when flying internationally as it feels (but doesn’t look like) pyjamas! In fact, it is such a simple design and so easy to wear I’m going to take a pattern from it this week and see if I can make a few variations for the cooler months.

The dress reminds me so much of one my mum had when I was growing up. She wore hers with knee high brown leather boots, and the pussy bow at the neckline was also a regular for a while in her wardrobe. For me, I was having a bit of a Barbie moment this morning, and when I put on this new lipstick with it’s almost plastic like quality, I knew I wanted to give this dress a bit of a dolly feel. Lucky there is never a shortage of pink around here!

  1. I have many dresses like that and I’m so pleased you’ve shown this frock as I have such a fondness for this style. I’ve picked them up dirt cheap from op shops. I find that a dusky pink is a very popular colour, I seem to come across them all the time! My mum also wore knee high boots when I was young in the 70s although the pair I remember were a deep burgundy. She never kept those boots but my foot is nearly 3 sizes bigger than hers so I don’t mind too much!

  2. Oh Candice this outfit is super lovely! I totally adore the color combination, but the cherry on top is the tone of these photographs! You make me think of the coming winter – I really can’t wait to wear this 50s tartan dress that’s been sitting in my wardrobe for a while! And I’m just like you – I will definitely be complaining about the cold soon enough but I was really sick of the non-summery summer!

  4. Have to love anything that feels like pajamas when on! I do love a fabulous mint green and pink combo. One of my most requested glass bead combinations is a ‘candy mix’ of green and pink.

  5. What a elegant look for Autumn.
It’s so true about the excitement that new season’s bring, I live in England and we’re all rather tired of winter now. It seems to be never ending. I am really looking forward to spring and summer! I think might take inspiration from Pearl Harbour this year. But until then I will enjoy wearing my 70s pussy bow neck dress too.

  6. I love the dress, it’s amazing what you can find in op shops if you are prepared to spend a bit of time looking. I must admit I have always been addicted to them, and finding elegant designer label clothes at below $20 is such a buzz.
