Dita Von Teese launches Von Follies at Target Urban – Australia
On the eve of her LMFF runway show, Dita Von Teese appeared in Target Urban on Chapel street Melbourne this morning, to greet fans and chat about her new Von Follies line. Beginning with a media Q&A, Dita went on to talk about her love of lingerie and her collection of vintage pieces.
What is your favourite colour lingerie?
“Black lace (as worn today under her dress). I think every woman should at least have a black lace set. And you should always have two panties for every set… If your dog runs off with one panty, you’ll at least have another. I’m not saying that as a sales pitch, I’m speaking from experience.”
Is your lingerie meant for every day wear or for special occasions?
“Definitely for every day. I don’t believe in saying ‘Let me slip into something more comfortable’… I’m already wearing it. I’m always ready.”
What is your favourite from the range?
“The over-wire bra. Sorry, there’s no fancy name for it – I didn’t think of giving them fancy names.”
“I was always on ebay searching for the original 50s over-wire bras and buying up. I wanted to make sure that this style was re-fined and perfect before bringing it into the range.”
Is this style rare?
“It is now… I think I bought them all!
How do want women to feel when they are wearing your range?
“I don’t want to tell women how they should feel, they can feel however they want to feel wearing my range. But I wanted to provide a range that they can feel feminine in.
“I think you should also buy for your size and not the size you want to say you are. I used to buy extra small and the panty would cut in and not fit very well – so instead I bought small or medium and cut off the size label. So buy your real size and cut the size label if it bothers you!”
What do you think of the current state of shapewear?
“Without naming names, I don’t think they are feminine enough. Like bike shorts (scrunches up face). Shapewear should be feminine and they’re not like they used to be in the 50s. I’m currently working on it…”
Where do you get your inspiration from?
“I draw inspiration from the vintage lingerie I own. I also think it’s important that the panty looks as good at the back as it does at the front. Because you need to look good when you’re leaving the room…”
Dita will be showing her full collection tomorrow evening for the LMFF runway show and I’m looking forward to seeing this presented with her vision and styling intact. Dita revealed that she had to issue an emergency “No Spray Tans!” edict to the models, and has also been personally responsible for overseeing the hair and makeup design.
