On the eve of her LMFF runway show, Dita Von Teese appeared in Target Urban on Chapel street Melbourne this morning, to greet fans and chat about her new Von Follies line. Beginning with a media Q&A, Dita went on to talk about her love of lingerie and her collection of vintage pieces.

What is your favourite colour lingerie?

“Black lace (as worn today under her dress). I think every woman should at least have a black lace set. And you should always have two panties for every set… If your dog runs off with one panty, you’ll at least have another. I’m not saying that as a sales pitch, I’m speaking from experience.”

Is your lingerie meant for every day wear or for special occasions?

“Definitely for every day. I don’t believe in saying ‘Let me slip into something more comfortable’… I’m already wearing it. I’m always ready.”

What is your favourite from the range?

“The over-wire bra. Sorry, there’s no fancy name for it – I didn’t think of giving them fancy names.”

“I was always on ebay searching for the original 50s over-wire bras and buying up. I wanted to make sure that this style was re-fined and perfect before bringing it into the range.”

Is this style rare?

“It is now… I think I bought them all!

How do want women to feel when they are wearing your range?

“I don’t want to tell women how they should feel, they can feel however they want to feel wearing my range. But I wanted to provide a range that they can feel feminine in.

“I think you should also buy for your size and not the size you want to say you are. I used to buy extra small and the panty would cut in and not fit very well – so instead I bought small or medium and cut off the size label. So buy your real size and cut the size label if it bothers you!”

What do you think of the current state of shapewear?

“Without naming names, I don’t think they are feminine enough. Like bike shorts (scrunches up face). Shapewear should be feminine and they’re not like they used to be in the 50s. I’m currently working on it…”

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“I draw inspiration from the vintage lingerie I own. I also think it’s important that the panty looks as good at the back as it does at the front. Because you need to look good when you’re leaving the room…”

Dita will be showing her full collection tomorrow evening for the LMFF runway show and I’m looking forward to seeing this presented with her vision and styling intact. Dita revealed that she had to issue an emergency “No Spray Tans!” edict to the models, and has also been personally responsible for overseeing the hair and makeup design.

Oh I would so love to have that black bra Dita is wearing but oh no they do not ship outside australia… Hope they will soon though!

    • Haha, now you know how I feel. Every time I deem some new product awesome. Sorry, we don’t ship to Australia. Pretty sure asos carries it now, but I guess you’ve probably learnt that already. :3 Still need to get my hands on some of these beauties. There was a black bondage style bra in target that I haven’t seen since. If anyone knows what I’m talking about and knows where I can score one you should definitely link me. :D

I love Dita’s elegance and this outfit is wonderful. In the photo above it is striking how much she stands out against the folk in Melbourne’s signature many shades of black. Not only becuase she is wearing colour (wonderful violet) but with her style.

  3. Oh, could her hair possibly get any more perfect? What I would give for a one on one hair styling session!

  4. Dita looks fab as always, the dress is great and I like the flower detail, but there´s a bit to much bra-sighting going on. Looks like her dress got a little out of place on one side unintentionally and nobody told her :). The bra itself is something I´d like to try, though.
Also, I can´t stop thinking that the curvy girls bra cups are a bit to small.

    • totally agree with the cup sizing, very disappointing it essentially stops at an E cup, would have LOVED to see the large cup range start at size 10 (most start at size 12) and go up to a G cup. – its funny when you hear people say they wanted a range for all sizes and then their sizing is still so so limiting, like going up to a DD is supposedly catering for the larger cup sizes.

  5. Great piece! Have you bought anything Candice? I rushed in and bought the blue set – which I see is now sold out. Am tempted by that overwire bra – but don’t think I could bring my self to wear it exposed! Hmmm…

  6. her hair is perfect! thanks for sharing these photo’s and the interview!

Helen M did a great job with the photography in a very packed room. My fave is picture 2 – the contrast between the immaculate Dita and the photographer on her left who looks like he slept in his clothes – so droll. I thought she was dressed perfectly. The more than a glimpse of her bra was appropriate for this event and good marketing for her lingerie range.

It would have been good if her range went to a G – so many women are wearing much too small cup sizes (including the plus size model featured in the launch). Lingerie retailers would be selling many more E, F and G cups if only more women were more aware of being properly fitted.
