Dita Von Teese – Von Follies Range for Target – in store now!

dita von tesse for von follies at target Dita Von Teese Von Follies Range for Target in store now!

Dita Von Teese is the latest in the line of Designers for Target here in Australia as we all well know. I know many of you have been anxiously awaiting this range to hit the stores, so I headed out this morning to see if it lives up to the hype. Firstly, I decided to head to a suburban store instead of the city, Chadstone or Doncaster stores where I know are always the busiest. Would the hype have reached the suburbs?

By opening time at 9am, I and my tiny assistant were at the doorstep, and we were the only souls around! Not even the staff opening the door knew much about the range, so I figured there wouldn’t be much competition.

Here’s the tips for you; the suburban stores don’t have the complete range. They don’t have the corsets, chemise, bustiers or suspenders, but they do have a good range of sizes.  If you get stuck with your online purchases (you can shop for the range of Dita Von Teese Von Follies online here) or if you’re headed to the city and they are all out, make sure to hit up the suburban stores for your picks. Smart girls will head to the suburban stores where it isn’t so busy, to try their bras for fit , then be able to purchase the rest of what they want online, already knowing the correct size and without having the competition for sizes you’ll have when shopping in the larger stores!

Yes, I have made some selections for myself and no doubt they will make an appearance soon too.  Once I’ve had a chance to give them a proper road test for fit, feel and how they stand up to the test of my real world day; I’ll have even more low down on this line.  But in a nutshell, yes they are beautiful and very reasonably priced.  I was expecting to see a stronger vintage influence in the finish though. For instance, the suspender belts do have proper and substantial metal clips, but they’re only four strap, not the six you’ll need to keep your seams straight.  I’m also wary of how the weight of the elastic will stand up to a night on the dance floor, as wardrobe malfunctions have a high risk of occurrence with most ‘boudoir’ type suspender sets. The full brief knickers aren’t high enough waisted to give them a real vintage feel, but they are lovely nonetheless.

Have you been awaiting this launch and have you already picked out your favourites? Let me know!

I have to say although lovely, I am a tad disappointed too.
I had somewhat higher expectations for colour ways (something a but more original than your standard ‘red+black’ with lace) and high waisted styles (only one? Really?!) however this makes it much easier for me to purchase the entire set that I want without fawning over all the others…:3

  2. I am also disappointed with the range. There are only two options in “plus size” (and I can’t believe the standard range only goes to a 14/14D), and no bustiers or chemises!

They are so pretty, but to get the pieces that I really want I will need to drop a few dress sizes. I was hoping that the plus sizes would be across the range.

  3. I was astonished to find that the Canberra City store did not have the full range! I’m hoping one of these days Canberra will actually be considered a major city, I can live in hope. Still I got the blue bra and a range of knickers, will try them out then consider buying online – mind you I’m meant to be doing Frugal February.

    • If it helps, even Broadway, the Sydney city store, doesn’t have the full range according the website – but a couple of stores out west DO. I don’t understand how they chose which stores would get the full range.

I’m also dissapointed that the range is not available online to overseas customers (I’m in New Zealand and Target won’t ship to us). But there are a couple of lovely bras that I have my eye on that will perhaps turn up on ebay later on.

    I am terribly disappointed with the range, although I don’t believe it’s Dita’s fault, I think it’s Targets’s.
Firstly the sizes run big, therefore I could not fit into the bras. I’m normally a 10d-10dd, but the band’s were more like a 12, the straps could not be tightened properly and the cups were flimsy (which is typical Target.)

Secondly, they should have been more specific with how and where the ranges would be released. I couldn’t find anywhere locally that had the matching garters, and went on a goose chase to a store that the others were saying had them, but they didn’t!

Lastly, Dita Von Teese herself would not fit into this lingerie, how exactly is she meant to be doing a runway show in March? Custom made for her maybe?

I do not recommend buying these online without trying them on first because they are not true to size. Women with small breasts, don’t bother at all, and the 10′s fit like 12′s.

I understand that she wanted to make affordable lingerie for all sizes of women, but what’s the point of making it affordable if it’s lesser quality and doesn’t fit? I would have happily paid premium price for proper underwear from her, rather then this pretty range that does nothing except look nice in the window displays.

    • Thank goodness I’m not alone! I had a very similar experience and was very disappointed! A wild goosechase!
The smallest size available was a 10B, which leaves very few options for smaller bsuted or petite women. Likewise, I found that there was only 3 size 8 knickers between two stores and in all sizes. I have a few friends who are petite and I’m sad to say none of this range would fit them.
The stores I went to (Castle Hill and Rouse Hill) are known are large/medium sized Targets, but neither offered the full range. For example both lacked the bustier and chemises. Plus, the bra I was interested in (the overwire bra) appears not to be in production yet.
To top it off, there were no bras made in a size 10C and like you stated, the other sizes appeared to run large. This means I was extremely hestitant to purchase the chemise or bustier online, as who knows if it would fit or not.
I adore Dita but I was completely unimpressed (and I found a similar situation when searching for her Muse dresses).

Carli – If you want a fantastic bullet bra, go to What Katie Did UK. They have BEAUTIFUL bullet bras as well as the correct fillers you’ll need to manufacture the right shape. :)

  7. Thank you Super Kawaii Mama for teasing us with your review – I am looking forward to visiting Brisbane in March! but by the sound of it the plus sizing isn’t plus?? I am a 16 DD and 16-18..i will still probably indulge anyhow.
See you on the dance floor, M x

  8. I have to say I was a bit disappointed when I checked the collection out at Target’s web site. For some reason everything looked much better in the campaign photos where Dita wore the lingerie herself, than on the Target models…But with the reasonable price, I guess it’s still a good range! But just as you I expected six-strap garter belts. And WHERE is that overwire bra?!!! That’s the one I was looking forward to the most! xo

  9. The full range hasn’t been released yet and the overwire is due in the second drop.

  10. Petites might like Australian brand ‘Elegantly Scant’. My measurements are 34 inch Bust ,AA cup , 24 inch waist, 36 inch hip, 160cm height. A 12A looks pretty & fits me without gaping or making me look like I am a kid dressing up in my Mums clothes ;-)

  11. Cecilia /

Both Targets I went to have HEAPS of everything from the line.
I didn’t have any issue with sizing, but maybe that’s because I’m an average 12C…

To be fair, it’s Target, and a limited line. Bras @ Target for bigger sizes just don’t offer the support anyway. Dita did do a line for Wonderbra – more expensive, but more supportive and in larger sizes… :)

  12. *sigh* they do look beautiful! I’m rather disappointed there isn’t a bullet bra though! All the same, I can’t wait till they are available in the US :)

  13. I’ve heard that this is just a small portion of the collection and more will be released in coming months? Because there were a few gorgeous items in the photo shoots pre-release that aren’t in this collection that I’m hanging out for! But what’s out now is pretty enough but nothing spectacular. Also, I didn’t find sizing to be an issue at all, like most others seem to have.

  14. I love the look of these, too bad there is nothing available in the US. Same with Dita’s clothing line muse, none of it in the US poo. I’m sorry however for you austrilain girls that the quality is just not there in the bra’s in this line because they sure do look pretty.

  15. I am sooo waiting for Target to launch her over-wire bra in black and peach. I will snap those items up along with that red/black eyelash lace balconette bra. Thanks for giving us and up close and personal look at Dita’s new line. Your a doll.

  16. I live in Griffith NSW (about 2 hours west of Wagga Wagga) and they actually have a proper Target, not an awful Target country, but it still wasn’t that surprising to see that the country stores only have a teensy part of the range.

Which would have been fine, if the part of the range that they had was actually any good. I got a bit excited seeing the press release months ago and reading that the range would go up to an E cup, but in typical Target fashion, the biggest cup size they had in Griffith was a C.

None of the bustiers or suspender belts were there either, but looking at Targets website, they dont really look all that impressive either. Bit disappointed that some of the lovely things shown in the press release weren’t there. Where’s that lovely overwire bra? The construction looks a little flimsy too. Like others, I would have been happy to pay double the price for decent underwear by Dita, but the range just looks a little cheap to me.

All in all, very disappointed in Griffith (but not surprised. It is a country store). A little odd that the suburban stores dont carry the full range either though.

    :(

  17. I’ve never seen anything like that in a Target! They’re quite lovely though. I can’t wait to see the next review on them. I love that first photo :)

    Very disappointed!
not the vintage inspired styling and larger sizes or styles promised in the advertising!
very cheap and flimsy and no e cups to be found.

  19. Sadly once again being a size 12-14F I have fallen through the cracks.

I love that they have stuff for larger ladies but I wish people would realise that there are many of us out there that are quite average size with larger breasts!

I can’t fit into any of the top’s and I love to match so no bottoms for me too.

maybe the second drop will have more size options

  20. I purchased a set, & am in the process of road testing a Dita Set myself. As a Lingerie Designer, & with 5 years worth of Department store bra fitting experience under my “garter belt”, I have found my sizes true to size & very comfortable upon my first day of wear- thus far. I will know the true outcome with more wash & wear. I am use to wearing only French Lingerie, so spending $70 on a set, versus I shant even mention on a pair of panties, was definitely a lovely treat.

I’ve just bought a multitude of this range at Target Online – where it went out on clearance (it’s gone back up again a bit now – so weird!). I got animal print/black lace full briefs for $2.28, full-figure balconette bras (in two different styles and colours) for $6.91 in a size 18DD – absolutely stunning!! I got my teenage daughter a matching corsellage and panties set in burgundy lace for under $15 for the set. A few weeks ago I went in store and some of the full figure briefs were marked down to aroun $4, but scanned in at just over $1!! Unheard of! And I’m not sure about others saying the quality isn’t there, this is amongst some of the best underwear I’ve ever seen and felt. Maybe the subsequent items released in the range were of a better quality and fit? There is certainly a great deal more plus size in the range now. I’m a generous size 16 with DD boobs, and I feel like a princess in this range. Thanks Dita, and Target! :)

    • Super Kawaii Mama /

Simone: That’s great news! I’ve since bought some piece from the second release and been very happy with the bra fit and the knickers I can’t get enough of. Still looking for them in the same colours and sizes every time I visit a store.
