It’s not exactly Kermit green, but I’m stuck between two greens at the moment. A more light mossy green and a greyer sage type green. And I just can’t make up my mind!
Grey-er Sage like this &
Mossier green like this.
For once this is a bigger decision than which eye shadow of the day, or even which frock on the rack I’m choosing. This time it is carpet. Since we moved into this house some five years ago, there has been a list of aspirational renovations we’ve wanted to do that are a mile long. Some were tackled immediately, (purple ceilings anyone?), others a slower process like when I stripped all the wallpaper and went peacock blue in the bedroom. Then my fix it up streak went on AWOL. That is until I can no longer live with the carpet I have in my most often used rooms; my studio and the family room. As much as I’d like to replace the floor in the whole house, it looks set to cost the sum of a decent car, so for now I’m applying a bit of make do and mend to the situation. Which brings me to my dilemma.
The January sales shortly come to a close and I’ve managed to secure a deal on two carpets that I like. One is a safe option, a rather modern grey green called sage and the other a thicker and rather more adventurous moss green. Of course my instincts tell my that adventure is always my chosen path, and from everything I can see in my research on mid century homes, colour was all the rage. So do I go bolder even though Miss Seven says it looks like frog vomit?…. This is the serious conundrum of my Wednesday. Will you weigh in and help me decide? ;)

Hi SKM, I’ll weigh in and say go with the mossy more adventurous green. I have a similar colour throughout my house and I love it!!
Definitely the mossy green. Really not a fan of the other one…go for a proper green! Love love love the second one.

hi miss skm,
i’m leaning towards the moss green just coz it’s brighter therefore cheerier, but it all depends on the wall colour & furniture. if the ‘frog vomit’ (hehehe) green complements the walls & furniture i say go for it!
i’d prefer to have a more neutral floor then u can go nuts with wall colour or decorator items:) & it’s much cheaper to change a wall colour than change the carpet! my wish is to have timber floors with green walls & crisp white trim & dark timber furniture with an art deco inspired design (have to rob a bank to get the real stuff)
let us know what u finally decide on, have fun choosing
The description of the ‘frog vomit’ green is making me think of the carpets we had in both my primary and high schools! Have you been able to secure a sample of the carpet to throw on the floor to get an idea of what each looks like within the home??
Jasmine recently posted..GOOD LAWD YES! Seriously, go check this woman out, her dresses…
Jasmine: Yes I have the two samples here and have been lying on them, walking on them, talking to them and photoshopping them into the whole room!
Photoshopping them into the room … that IS genius! For a mid-century sort of woman there’s no denying you’re also very much a woman of your time!

Jasmine: SO true! One of these days I’ll get around to showing you all my home in full, complete with iPads on mid century cabinets, x-boxes in deco china cases and hot Wi Fi systems in 50′s sherbet green.
Can’t wait to see it – I love seeing how vintage households incorporate modern elements (… vice versa?) with style. Sort of like your personal fashion style!

moss. definitely. while i might like it for a small room, the other could look like prison concrete on a rainy, cloudy day. go with the color!!
Always chose the adventure!

I like the grey green. I had mossy green carpet in my house growing up and I hated it. And I could never paint my room because nothing matched the carpet. The grey green would be much easier to live with if you changed your mind about paint in the future.

Moss green. Our walls are grey and on overcast days, it feels really bleary.
If the moss green isn’t giving anyone nightmares of dentists (the colour unfortunately is rather en vogue with a lot of dentists and hospitals here), go for it. The paler green might be a bit boring in the end. (And carpets tend to become greyer by themselves over time anyway.)

Frog vomit kinda puts the kybosh on that one for me.
I’d more neutral with whatever colours you want in the accessories etc. More room to move. The carpet is the expensive thing you cannot change.
Make sure you get bright pink carpet for Little Miss’s room because Flamingo vomit is lovely.

I vote for mossier green because the other one look dull!
The mossy green! It has so much more life to it.

What’s the light like in the room? I find that the duller rooms in my place that are east facing need colours with more yellow, or some kind of warmth, in them. I do think the mossy one might be more fun! I love colours that bring joy when you look at them! Vs what can be loved with…
Can’t wait to find out what you choose!

Marianne: It is a south facing room with tree ferns outside the window. I took the plunge and painted it yesterday and it looks amazing! (Mossy green carpet to come next week) When I get it finished you’ll have to come over and play in this sherbet – like space.
In past experience, ALL Miss 7′s say that EVERYTHING looks like either vomit, poo or wee…..so go for whatever makes you happiest!

Carli: You are so right! I’m told now that the walls look like Frog Wee!! LOL
I like the mossier green, thinking the grey – sage is a tad boring? Then you would have to dress up the room with more colour to enhance the decor…but of course you have to live with and in it, smiles.
I love the mossier green but its also based on how the carpet looks with the light.

Definitely the moss green. I think the other colour is a little dull.
The best decision I ever made for carpet was to get something that already looked a bit dirty and camouflaged “accidents” well. I’ve got a grey that has a brown fleck through it and it’s hard to tell if my carpet is dirty or not!
The Sage Green would be a better option, as you’ll find that it’ll be kinder in regards to fading and cleaning. You are replacing your studio and family room, which are high traffic areas, and I think you’ll find that the Moss Green will be a nightmare to keep clean.
I personally prefer the Sage Green anyway, as it’s a little more neutral and will go better with more things.
Carpet isn’t something you change very often, so I think it’s better to go the safer root on this. You can always go bolder and brighter on furniture and rugs!
Just a few things I picked up watching 4 years of the Lifestyle Channel
Having just gone through a similar kind of back/forth with paint colours in my own home, going for something bold has totally paid off. Go for the mossy green!

It sounds like an exciting choice! Can’t wait to see all the piccies!

Okay SKM, don’t hate me for this. I suggest ditching both carpets and going Beige or with wood (easier to clean).
You can always top wood with an area carpet (which can be always be resold and changed).
Neutral core items (like flooring, or pricey furniture) make it easy for you to change everything else on a whim. Paint is cheap, so put your green on the walls.
Be flamboyant with what can be easily changed out.
Once you go green carpet, you’re stuck with it for a decade. You might love it today, but will you love it in 5 years?
F: I did consider going with timber purely for the cleaning factor, but it was a very expensive option with everything that would have to be done first. But beige?? Oh no… that would be like selling my soul to the devil of mass market mediocrity.
I find that I end up spending more on furniture and fittings than I do on carpet so I’m not afraid to go bold there. In fact.. I can’t wait to show you what I’ve done over the past few days! My budget has been almost non existent, so what I lack in funds I’ve made up for in bravery.
It should be finished in about two weeks so expect some seriously intense Home & Garden type posts.
