Daily Outfit – Black Tie

daily outfit black and white with black bow tie Daily Outfit Black Tie

The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that I had my hair cut last week. In fact I had rather a lot cut off, about 20cm all up. Having shorter hair makes it much more versatile for lots of different vintage hairstyles, especially 50′s sets.  But today isn’t so much about my hair but about a simple, inexpensive outfit that I wore for a Sunday afternoon meeting with a new vintage hair & makeup client.  I try to keep my outfits simple and chic when I’m working. That way there’s no excessive frippery to get in the way of all the bending, stretching and standing for hours. And so, while the sky darkened and the rain poured, I went Black Tie.

  1. I really like that look. I’d love to be able to wear high waisted pants but they just dont suit me.

Nicole: That’s such a pity, but you’re right they don’t work on everyone. It’s all about how long your torso is in order to create the right balance.

  2. Nice outfit! Very smart and I love the new hair cut, looks great. I’m thinking of chopping my locks too – long hair becomes a lot of work after a while.

  3. Love the new ‘do – Very flattering and I bet it’s so much lighter.

I too can’t really do the high waist look very well – specifically when it’s combined with a wide leg. I think a high waist cigarette pant might work okay on my figure but wide legs swamp me.

  4. Phew, I’m glad I’m not hallucinating, I love the new hair cut! It’s pretty much exactly how I’d like my sets to turn out. May I ask, what kind of “cut” did you ask for? It appears quite similar to Dita’s hair when styled, but I have no idea what type of cut she has. Do you have suggestions for the best haircut for these lovely curls/waves? I’m considering a Middy, but I’d appreciate any advice you can doll out. Thankyou!

  5. Chic and lovely. Your new hair is great, I bet your head feels so light!

  6. I love that look for work- it’s so smart and businesslike. The bow adds that little edge of quirky fun, too: super!

Your hair is great that length, the curls round the back look so defined, it really frames your face well.

Wow “Glamourous Man Style” I love it! Reminds me of Katherine Hepburn. Especially that darling bow tie. Could you please explain how you did the hairstyle? I’ve recently bought both hot sticks and hot rollers but have yet to master the correct technique.

Ntasha: Sure thing! Hot Sticks and hot rollers will give you very very different results and aren’t exactly interchangeable so it’s good you have both. I’m planning a filming day tomorrow so I should have something soon. :)

  8. This is my first visit to your blog and am really loving it. Your style is divine – makes me think of Dita Von Teese (I’m sure you’ve been told that a gazillion times) and Ms Bitchcakes (http://www.sherylyvette.com/) … absolutely divine.

That’s a gorgeous outfit! Also, if you don’t mind my asking, what lipstick do you use? It’s a really lovely color.

MAria; Thanks! I wear so many reds its sometimes hard to remember which one I was wearing on a given day. But I think this is one of my new ones I’m reviewing later this week. Keep and eye out for all the details! :)

  10. The bow is fantastic! It’s a lovely finishing touch for an elegant & classy outfit.
