When they tell me that fashion is about to experience a return to the 70′s moment, I don’t start thinking Hippies and long straight hair. I don’t think boho or flower child. Instead my mind turns straight away to Joan Collins and her uber glam, big haired version of everything. With her oversized glasses, liberal use of fur, slink and glitz, I’m always drawn to the way her 70′s look appears like she’s just about to take the Monte Carlo tables for a few million.
When I got up yesterday morning, I hadn’t planned to create an outfit resembling anything close to a 1970′s look. I’d spent the previous day working on a new pattern for some winter suit pants and was keen to try them out. So I pulled them on and added a few bits and pieces to compensate for the cool weather. Then, as I started to curl my newly shortened hair, I realised that the look was morphing quite distinctly towards 70′s casual glam. So I just went with it and this is what happened.

Love it! So awesome to see you in different decades! I particulary liked your art deco flapper look many moons ago. The hair looks awesome- is that a fake bob or have you had a snip?
Also can you tell me how you achieved that awesome photographic effect in the pictures?
Natasha: Thanks! I have quite a few different ones up my sleeve over the next month or so think. Feeling a whole new inspiration at the moment. Yes, I have had quite a lot cut off my hair to be able to do some more classic 50′s and 60′s sets in upcoming tutorials. In fact, I may even do a Farrah soon!
P.S The photo effect is achieved using iDarkroom software.
ooo….Candice, this looks like the start of something exciting, complete with a new tag…1970…looking forward to it!

Lorri: Thanks to you, I’m adding a whole new tag directory to make it easier to find outfits by decade inspiration! What a genius idea that was – I can’t believe it never occurred to me. Thank you!
hehe, I didn’t realise I came up with a new idea, I thought you did that already LOL, I do like good structure!

actually, are you able to add the decades in your cloud bubble on your homepage and maybe a chronological menu there too…often I can’t remember the title or would like to browse through earlier posts on a blog, so a drop down chronological menu would make it easier to find past posts xx

Very cute. I love your spin on the 70′s, it’s different from your usual outfit styling but still distinctly you.

Coffeeaddict: Thank you. It’s funny how that happens. No wonder when people ask me to “dress down” it never works – I’m still too me! LOL
The 70s… my favourite fashion decade! I love the textures and unabashed luxury WITH a big dose of glitter and cute.
I love this outfit, the gilet just ‘makes’ it. Such wonderful clean lines but with a big fluffy hit of texture- elegant and fun.
Perdita: You know, I’ve never considered the 70′s from the ‘cute’ perspective.. time for some investigation!
Love this tailored luxe 70′s ensemble. As you mention, that decade was a lot more diverse in style than most people realise.
I remember both “baggies” – trousers that were high waisted with tight fitting hips with the fabric falling down into long columns that hid 12 cm high platform shoes, making women look like giants. Also, the ultra sophisticated “palazzo” pants invariably worn with a halter top on your luxury boat (in my childish imagination, that is!). Love this casual sophisticated look (and that great Fendi bag).
The_Dark_Lady: If there is one fashion item I can’t imagine my wardrobe without it is Palazzo Pants. I must make at least 4 new pairs each year, and they save me from ever being tempted by a tracksuit. I’m hoping that as fashion looks to the 70′s, it remembers the best bits like we do!
Oh I love the detail with this look – effortless but super chic
cclarebear: Thanks Clare
I LOVE it! It’s so much fun to switch up a basic look, and as always you look glamourous! Great haircut too.
Alaina: Thank you, and yes it IS fun
What a great take on the 70′s trend- I have to say I’m not taken with the boho thing
