I’ve been taking a little break from writing myself last week and instead did a little reading. Catching up on all those pleasures that are to be found online, widening the net and finding new colours to add to my creative palate.
Inspiring me today are the artworks of these Japanese based illustrators. Each unique in their own style, they have a hefty dose of talent and spoonfuls of kawaii. With their colours, layers and romantic passions, it is like a good serving of sherbet for the brain!
Artwork by Tamaishi Kayo
Tamaishi Kayo’s work has a wonderful low tech quality to it. Seeing the pencil lines and ink strokes as she colours, makes me imagine she must have been a very creative student, colouring her notebooks instead of doing her maths homework and passing elaborately illustrated notes to her classmates.
” I Will Wait”
“Ready Yet”
“A Promise in Another Life”
Tammy’s work is layered loveliness, full of surprises, pouty lips and pops of colour. Using mainly photoshop to create her work, the pieces have a collage like feel; a digital scrapbook of girly dreams that should come with their own flavour guide – Raspberry Parfait, Cherry Chocolate, Coffee n Cream…
Tammy’s artwork is so engaging and popular you can even get her on a VISA card!! Why can’t I have this one in my wallet?
Akira Ebihara’s works bring to mind for me, the Girls Annuals from the 1970′s that I grew up reading. The big eyes, the line drawings, the delightful retro feel. I would love to have her work as a set of playing cards to be able to keep in my handbag and flip through whenever I wanted.

I personally am loving the work of Camille Rose Garcia. http://www.camillerosegarcia.com/ She a quirky mix of Walt Disney and Tim Burton
I absolutely love love Imai Kira.
She’s produced works somewhat like Tammy’s, but her recent works, are more into small details and her Angelic Pretty advertisement collection is all centered around folds, lace and ribbons. She’s just wonderful!
