Daily Outfit – Vintage Tartan
Today was High Tea day and the very first High Tea I’ve ever taken Miss 6 to. It was cold, wet, dark and windy; so the outfits needed to be warm and chic to fight off the urge to stay home under a blanket. Miss 6 wore a little red pinafore with scottie dogs on it in keeping with the tartan / Scottish theme. I also realised while I was taking these photos that the dress matches Mr SKM’s kilt so you just know I’ll be doing a kitschy family outing soon!
Don’t you just love that ‘new dress’ feeling? This is my latest cracking vintage find, a 1950’s Italian vintage dress that is part secretary part sex kitten. WIN!
It has all the things I love about a great 50s winter dress. Great tailoring, beautiful quality wool, rear zip (no messed up hair), just past elbow length sleeves and making a very classic style just a little bit sexy.
Dress: 1950’s vintage Italian wool
Hosiery: Black sheer with red back seam by Voodoo
Shoes: Target
Handbag: 1950’s framed bag in black painted leather
Bow: Grace Lee
Earrings: pearled bows from Equip
Ring – Hand beaded creation found at a market
Lipstick – MAC Russian Red
Lashes – The Face Shop

As a token Scottish lass, I hereby officially approve of your outfit
Like I don’t usually!
I’ve been trying to work my hair into that sort of style with heated curlers and tongs, but it’s not for happening! I’ve got coloured, very thick just-below-the-shoulder hair, any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
xx
Miz: I’m going to do a tutorialon this one and cover off the key elements that make it work. That way you can evaluate for yourself where you think the problem might be. It isn’t for everyone and does take a certain hair type, cut and tools… so we’ll see. But fingers crossed it works for you!
Thank you! Can’t wait to see it
Very cute and very flattering.
I always love tartan…and green and blue colour combinations
I really adore the bouncy curl hair look you’re rocking here – it’s very fun!
Your hair, your hair, your hair! My it looks fabulous!
Now I wish I could see Miss 6’s red scottie dog pinafore – she’s one chic daughter I’m sure
wild Tea PArty: It is the first time I tried this technique and it worked a treat! I love it so much too!

Is there a tutorial on how to do that hairstyle? It’s divine!
I’m loving everything with this, and your daughters outfit sounds too cute
Loli: No tutorial yet. It is a multi step type of thing but I think well worth the effort. I’ll add it to the top of the list for new tutorials.
Absolutely gorgeous! I have even more dress envy here than usual
And your hair is amazing!
Can you tell us what foundation you are wearing? Or is it the mineral powder?
Marianne: Thank you.
The foundation is by Bourgious in their Healthy Formula range called Light Vanilla. My favorite new liquid foundation.
Gorgeous!
I am not sure what I am more in love with, the dress or the shoes!
Oooooh, I was outbid on a dress like that on ebay! Had a little jacket though. Love that plaid and the shoes!

what is painted leather? do you mean patent leather?
Penny: No, I mean ‘painted’. It has a finished that is like a matt satin paint finish. Not glossy like patent and not like a dye either.. I can’t be sure how it is done, but ‘painted’ is the closest description I can come up with.
oh wow. i haven’t seen anything like that. its a gorgeous purse anyway!
!! That’s my ‘clan’ tartan
My Dad recently went to Scotland and brought me back a scarf in the Campbell tartan as well.
Beware – some nasty business between the Campbells and the McDonalds back in 1692 means that you actually wouldn’t be admitted to certain public places in Scotland wearing that dress. Certain pubs have signs up saying “no Campbells allowed”!
Bunny: That is so funny! I have a few good McDonald friends, so I must make a point to wear it to our next dinner and see what happens.
In the cities like Glasgow (where I live) or Edinburgh, it’s not such a problem – but in the Highlands, memories are long and a lot of wizened ole sorts still remember “their mammy and their mammy’s mammy” telling them all about the clan troubles!
I think the myth is better than the reality of it now, try questioning the validity of their claims tend to end in a “skelp” (a slap) on your “heed” (head) and mutterings about respect for elders!
I love this outfit! So chic and perfect for winter. Your hair is a treat!
Trés jolie look.
