With all this delightful immersion in my favorite music of late, I’ve let my mind wander to a very fun place. A place where I get to spend the evening hanging with some of my favorite musicians, shooting the breeze over a drink or two. Like any occasion this begs the question of what I would wear on such an imaginary date, and yes I would wear all this in real life too as you well know.
So I sat down with good ol’ Polyvore on the laptop and the tunes cranked up loud to put these few together for you. As always, if you click on the image it will take you through to Polyvore where you’ll find the complete product list for everything used in the sets. But rather than being about the specific garments or brands, it is about the whole look, the feeling, the ambiance of the occasion.
Join me on some fantasy dates…
Jerry Lee Lewis Loves Me
A warm Saturday afternoon music hall review, sitting just off stage where the not- so- subtle amber hue of my heels catches a sliver of light from the rear window. Jerry Lee is rocking the ivories, working the crowd into a lather, flashing a winning grin ever so slightly skewed to stage left, that says,” How ’bout that drink?”
.
Johnny Cash Baby
The phone rings it’s tin can bell sound. The man on the other end inhales slowly, drawing me in with a long breath. The crackle of the long distance connection keeps us from conversation but the message is clear; pack your bags baby, Johnny’s coming to town.
Swinging with Ella
Sometimes it takes a woman to know what you really need. Voice like a velvet gloved hand that runs slowly between your shoulder blades, your skin warms and your lips curl into a cozy smile. Strangers sit, eyes closed as waves of smokey tenderness rock their heads and their hearts in unison. A flicker of fire light and I exhale past bitten berry lips, settling in for an evening romance with a golden silhouette.
Who would be your imaginary music date of the past?

Very nice outfits. I especially liked the second one as I am kind of wide over my shoulders and don’t like to show much skin
Beautiful! The words, and the outfits. Music is such a great inspiration to me, in every aspect, and I never feel as comfortably dressed as I do on the mornings I dress with music.
I love that dress in “Swinging with Ella”.
Its gorgeous.
Thanks for the Polyvore displays they are brillant
Those are all so lovely! I have no idea how I could chose a favourite
How about angsty coffee and cigarettes with James Dean? Love the outfits!
Great outfits! I especially love the “Swinging with Ella” look.
As for me, my imaginary music date of the past would be Elvis Presley. 1950′s Elvis, though — when he first burst onto the music scene. I feel that I must specify because I’m so not into the 1970′s/Vegas Elvis.
Great post!
Melissa
I have those black ray bans from the Johnny Cash outfit! They increase the “badass” factor of any outfit tenfold!
I’d say my music date of the past would have to be Jim Morrison. Ooooh he was so fine!
Although the psychedellic style doesn’t suit my aesthetic at all!
The Vivienne Westwood dress is divine!
I completely agree with Melissa! Elvis Presley in the 50′s. He was so amazing. I’m not too fond of Vegas Elvis, either.
I have no idea what I’d wear. Probably a cute shirtdress with lots of crinoline underneath and bright, flirty heels. And a fabulous hairstyle, of course. Perhaps we’d go to one of his shows, I’d watching him strum (he was a fabulous rhythm guitarist, such a shame that talen got lost in his over-produced Vegas songs) and afterwards, we would drive to a classic 50′s diner in his fabulous car for milkshakes. Then he’d drive me home and kiss me goodnight like a gentleman.
Sigh, why can’t things just be like the good old days?
Nice!
Iggy Pop would be mine. I’m dirty and disgusting and fabulous all at once.
I looove the Ella one! Mwahaha I am so excited to start commenting again!
These are fun! I like the glimpse of undies in the first look. Haha
OMG! Gorgeous.
