The Lindy Charm School & SKM Take Hobart
Wow, what a big few days it has been! Travelling, talking, tasting and generally getting girly in Tasmania.
Although it is only the next state over, I’d never been to Tasmania and never then, been to Hobart. When I was asked to join The Lindy Charm School for Girls on their latest Hobart trip, I was thrilled to have the chance to do something I love in a brand new place. Now they had warned me that it was a tad cooler down there, but I am so, so glad I came prepared for the worst. When we hit the road on Saturday morning to head in and set up for the class, the temperature on the building thermometer read minus 2 degrees! The only other time I’ve experienced that kind of cold I was dressed for snow and certainly not in a dress and heels. The good thing is that I can now tell you I have put my Dressing with Glamour in the Cold tips to the test and they passed with flying colours.
Hobart is such a beautiful city. It has a wonderful sense of history and serenity that made it feel a whole world away. There was a hospitality and genuine sense of interest found in everyone I met. Whether it was swaping stories with the lady who ran an antique store out of town, or people on the street; I’ve never felt so welcome in a new city as I did in Hobart. On the very first morning, my friends and I were wandering around the square at Salamanca looking for somewhere to eat for lunch, when a lady came rushing over to us. She’s seen us looking a bit lost, recognised me from this blog and came to give us a recommendation – so thank you lovely mystery reader! You made my morning with your smile and hospitality.
Then it was off for a spot of vintage and op shopping, antiquing and Irish coffees; wins all round! (You’ll have to wait for another post to see the haul) Basically, it was a tailor made dream day put together by our lovely hostess who knew our weakness for a bargain.
The next morning we headed off in that minus 2 degree weather to meet our eargely awaiting debutantes, and here’s what happened….

Wow that sounds like a great trip! I really like the green coat you are wearing in the second picture, so stylish but it looks really cozy.
(Also, comment on minus 2, if you are speaking in Celsius: that’s not even tights weather where I am! Certain people with maligned values (aka people who go for style over comfort, aka me) have been known to wear sandals, skirts, and blazers in that sort of weather
Course, it was getting warmer later.)
Wow this looks lovely! Good to know you had a wonderful time
Looking forward to that haul!
xo
What a wonderful trip, it looks like! I’m just starting to try to dress more 1940′s and this gives me hope that maybe one day I’ll be able to get it right. Wish there were people in my area that I could connect with. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience!
cant wait for the haul , sounds like an amazing trip!
i have tried looking every for a charm school like that in Dublin , Ireland but cant find any at all !

Oh, I LOVE Hobart. Such a gorgeous town (I know it’s a city, but really …).
Hobart is excellent isn’t it!? Despite the cold hehe. I cant wait to see what vintage treasures you found.
Oh how I miss hobart. I grew up there and loved it! No where else in Australia is like it, its truly one of a kind! Looks like you had a wonderful time and can’t wait for your haul post!

Way back when, about 20 years ago, I worked in the lingerie department of a major department store. The manager of that department always took advantage of the 2x a year sale upon a sale where employees were given super discounts, and she stocked up on foundations. She always looked fantastic. She knew just the right item to wear under her clothes to make them look fabulous. She would have fit in well with the Lindy girls. I raise my gin and tonic to her and all the other ladies keeping vintage glamor alive.
OH! This looks like a whole lot of fun. I would love to do one of their workshops. And go to Tasmania. My boy just loves it there. Lucky lucky you!!
I love this post! And your outfits are absolutely stunning.
Hobart is definitely my new favourite city in Australia. My fiancée was born there, and in September we’re getting married at the Hobart Botanical Gardens
We’re also moving there in mid-2012. So I hope there are more Lindy Charm Schools planned for Hobart, because I will certainly miss them!
Also, if anyone knows someone in Hobart who can do vintage hairstyles, I would really appreciate their contact details! I have a 1950s Emma Domb wedding dress, and despite attending two Lindy Charm schools, I still haven’t mastered 40s and 50s hairstyles
(though my pin curls have significantly improved!)
