It seems my red and black woolen plaid dress last week was such a hit, I decided to try another. There is something so inherently snugly and sexy about a form fitting plaid dress, and this one is no exception. Last night I headed out to the Friends of Couture season launch party to check out all the latest offerings in their new Deep Into The Woods Winter range. Admittedly, I snuck into store earlier in the week to pick up this outfit for the occasion. I had lots of email after my last plaid dress posting asking where one could buy such an outfit, as the one I’d worn was from a few seasons ago. This time however, the dress is hot off the designers sketch pad and hit the stores this week. (As soon as it is available online I’ll let you know) Meet the “Tales of Treachery” dress. This one is also sleeveless making it a good choice for layering, dressing up or down.
The dress shown in the Deep Into The Woods look book, worn with longer sleeves underneath.
Of course, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t up the swank factor and add a big dose of vintage style. The shape of the dress was just begging for a 1960′s styling, so I paired it with the super soft, red angora “Hollywood Moment” cardi and one of my favorite brooches, for a bit of a Joan Holloway feel. The dress comes with a skinny patent leather belt, but to up the wiggle factor, I introduced a wider elastic waist cinching belt to give it even more definition.

Oh, I am so in love with that chair! Where did you find it?
Gen: It is part of a complete lounge set from the very early 1960′s. I treated myself a few Christmases ago and bought my own present
Oooh, could you post a picture o the whole thing sometime? When I move into my new place I’m planning on filling it with pieces like that!
Looking forward with much anticipation to hear more about the shoe clips
Must. Have. That. Dress.
So pretty!! And very flattering
Love the dress, if only it wasn’t wool, allergic !
Jaede: This one isn’t wool like the other. It is a cotton, poly, viscose blend, made to feel like felt so no allergy!
In that case I will have to look into one.
Oooh, luverly!!! You look quite fantastic.
I adore the shoe clips!
You’re a total knockout! The belt and brooch are both just perfect with this amazing dress.
I absolutely adore your hair tips and wardrobe tips! <3 keep them coming!!
I love Friends Of Couture cardigans a lot!!!
I love their dresses as well but they never fit me as well as they fit you!!
I need to do something about my broad back! Their dresses are always too tight around my bust/back area.
So so gorgeous! And I love the red detail on the back of your shoes
It’s funny, I actually popped over to watch your joan hair tut vid, and ta da! you have your hair up in one!
Marianne: That is so funny! Actually I’m working on a few new tutorials along that line. I did this hair with my own home made rat for the first time too
holy moly you look amazing!
Eli: Thank you
After following your blog a bit( and on facebook as well) I wanted to say thank you for being a hot mama!!! My question for you is…does your jewerly ever get caught on your little ones? I am always concerned that i will scratch my kidlets if i wear pins or broaches or even some of my rings. Do you just wear it when you are out and about and then remove before you give cuddles or have they learned to stear clear of the jewels?
Lazycakes: When they were very little I had to limit the jewelery to things that couldn’t be broken or swallowed which meant a dearth of accessories. As they grew I’ve tried to teach them about respect for these items by letting them wear and play with some of mine and by having their own too. ( We made each girl a faux pearl necklace at Christmas with glass pearl beads on elastic thread)
When it comes to scratching or poking them, I guess it is somewhat like wearing red lipstick in that I’ve developed an avoidence technique that has become second nature. Eg. If they are on my lap they sit on the opposite side to the spiky brooch. Probably the most casualties I’ve had is poking them with my nails, but I injure myself more often than them as I can be a bit of a klutz!
thank you!!

I love those shoe clips ! You have great style.
Oh, I am seriously loving that dress! It’s funny because even before I read the whole blog post about the things you added to the dress for that Joan Hollaway look, I was already thinking to myself “Gosh, that is such a Joan!outfit.”
not very relevant to the subject, but I was wondering if you know how to do Carey Mulligan’s updo on the poster of ‘An Education’. I can’t quite put my fingers on how to do the split buns sort of thing…
Zsehiralti: Can you email me a pic of what you want? I can’t see anything like your description on the posters I found. Very interested though… info@superkawaiimama.com
I cannot really find a photo of her from behind, but if you look at the trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn9IMe5jmf0
you can see her hair just in 0:16
I’m obsessed with the updo, but can’t figure out how to do it, do you see the curling of the bun on the sides?
Zsehiralti: Oh I see! A good easy one. Consider it done!
oh thank you, I’m really in love with her hair. By the way, if you didn’t already, you’ll definitely love the film. It’s an homage to 60′s style and music
