Not everyday is a good hair day. Sometimes I have days where it just won’t co-operate no matter what I try, that’s when I wear headscarves! But some days, small experiments turn into the best hair days too! This was one such day. I’m often stopped for my hair, but this style got more than the usual reaction which meant that it actually took nearly two hours to get the groceries done as I had to keep stopping to talk with people!
I’m not the best at creating pomps (faux fringe or bangs), and find that they can look too heavy on my face, so I wanted to try something different. I created a wide front roll, pinned in under and a little off centre. The trick was in separating out the blond section and making sure to smooth it the right way to get the effect. Sadly, this won’t be nearly as impressive on single tone hair, but oh well.
Now the only thing that remains to be seen is… can I do it again? If I can master it again and again, making sure to get the same result, I’ll then be able to create a tutorial.
And also, for all those who keep asking about my home, I decided to take these shots in the kitchen, just for something different. My place is a colourful, retro, kitsch kitty-tastic land!
In the meantime, please enjoy this happy accident with me.

Love it! You’re right, on single toned hair (ie. mine) the detail might be a little lost… perhaps a ribbon could become involved?!
I have had super simple, hippy hair lately, this inspires me to get it back UP!

Fuzzy turf bunny!!!!
Looks fantastic! I’m not sure I’d even have the patience to construct something like that – it must take ages. And I’ve witnessed your traffic-stopping abilities first hand – I sat next to you on a plane once and observed *everyone* turning their heads to admire! It was pretty amazing really
Rischa: I remember that! It was coming back from Sydney I think.. And no, this hair took all of about four minutes from memory, and a bit of hairspray for good luck!
Violet: YES! they are just so happy
Marianne: That is a great idea, I wonder if it can be done with a ribbon? I suppose it depends on how slippery the hair is..
Wow! you are such a vision! simply a beauty. Great hair style.
As usual, everything about your look is simply perfect!! I love how the last photo is so wonderfully retro. Oh yes, and your SKIN! To die for!
gorgeous hairstyle!..love your pictures..beautiful
Wow, super beautiful Mama! Not surprised you turned a few heads! <3
That is a pretty top. The cutest nautical top this side of the planet
Absolutely gorgeous! The top is lovely as well!
Wow – that is a really glam hairdo. I only have the patience to spend 3 minutes on my hair per day – but I admire that you can spend 4 on just a fringe/roll!
Iogen: 3 minutes?! wow. The only way I can get super glam hair in that time is with pin curls the night before. Then it is just shake, bursh and go for the next week of beautiful hair. I guess it all depends on what you get a kick out of, but I generally spend about 20 minutes of a morning gtetting dressed and ready.
Looks fantastic! You also have a gorgeous smile.

Everything about this photo is perfect! I love the hair so much its making me want to go out and put a streak in my hair just to be able to do this hair style
Bella: You can see why I keep it even though I’moften tempted to make a radical change.
It just works so well in so many different ways.
That is so stunning! I wish I had long enough hair to play around with like that. Maybe one day…
May I also ask what lipstick you’re wearing? I think I may need to scout it out!
Your hair looks amazing. But what really sparked my interest is YOUR KITCHEN!!!! The square shelves are the bomb! I must have more pictures! You should totally do a post on your interior decoration!
Thanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
TGH: Yes, I really should. it is a difficult thing to photograph those open plan rooms well, but maybe if I take shots of all the important bits you’ll get a feel for it. I adore those shelves so much.
Wow that really did turn out cute!
Fabulous…and your lipstick is SO perfect.
Fantastic do! I hope you are able to recreate it without too much trouble
perfect hair! and perfect make-uo
I think that you can purchase colored hair clip-ins, maybe that would help to create this look in single toned hair?
Fran: I have a few of those. I might give it a try and see if I can make it work for others too
Great suggestion!
hi i love ur site i found it late one night searching for mad men inspiration and i came across you !
i love the 1920s to 1960s era form the hair to the make up !
what would be the best way to shop at a vintage fashion fair that i am going to go this week end i would love to pick up a few pieces but i am afraid of the price and how to look at the condition of it .
on a day to day bases what a look i could always go for that quick ,easy yet has that retro feel to it hair and make up.
thanks

These liptick is gorgeous, what color is that?
Raquel: It is Loreal Shine Delice Gelee in strawberry. Smells divine too!
Aw, thank you so much! I would have never guessed, because on L’Oreal website the strawberry looks more pink-ish than red.
Do you have any post where you talk about your favorite red lipsticks? I would love to read it!
Raquel: Guess what I’m working on right this minute
I love this lipstick! I’m surprised it looks so red on you. It’s actually more of a scarlet/cherry colour on me, rather than true red. Still love it though!
Loli: Maybe it is the lighting.. I’m wearing the same one in today’s post too. I love the sort of cherry smell too.
