I’ve been saving this special post for Easter and now you see why.
The outfit you saw yesterday was for a very special tea party held by One Day in Paradise to celebrate the launch of Australia’s first lolita print from the wonderful Vitae Clothing! For those of you that don’t know them, Vitae Clothing are an Adelaide based lolita clothing brand. Each piece is hand made with an eye for detail and quality; yet another reason they make it onto my ‘love list’.
So, back to the tea party. After I was all frocked up I headed into the One Day in Paradise store where the party was held, to meet with some of Melbourne’s Loli girls and eat the best macaroons I’ve ever had. As expected, it was a wonderland of pink frills, hearts, bows, lace and tiny hats. Yes, like a tea party in Wonderland, especially given what appeared to be the presence of a small chicken drinking my tea!
There was an awful lot of excitement at this particular party, as given that the Lolita scene in Australia is relatively small, the milestone of having a first, homegrown print is a pretty big deal. The whole alternative fashion scene is a hotbed of creative talent and the Lolita scene is no exception. What I find the most admirable about these creatives, is that they follow their passions becasue of just that. Passion. They have a head full of dreams, ideas and beautiful pictures that they spend all their time finding ways to spread to the world.
Kelly Nicholas is the designer behind Vitae Clothing’s brand spanking new print is called “Usagi’s High Tea”. A bunny, chicken, duckling, strawberry scone covered delight. It is a border print with little strawberries and love hearts across the body, and has tiny heart button details on the JSK version. Because all the Vitae Clothing is custom made by hand, the print comes in both the JSK style or in a skirt only which allows for more versatility. The only problem I had was deciding which one was the best choice for me!
Vitae Clothing has come together with One Day in Paradise who will be the sole retailer for the “Uasgi’s High Tea” print, and the lovely Marie is coordinating the flow of be-ribboned bunny goodness for all the Lolita loving girls.
Luckily, you don’t have to wait for this one as it is now available for order through the One Day in Paradise online store with all sizing, hair bow and colour way information available there. The print comes in a Pink, Blue, White or Black colour way. Guess which one I’ll be wearing? And because it’s Easter, Vitae Clothing and One Day in Paradise have given me ……

I’ll go first! I love Odip because Marie does fantastic work bringing lolita fashion into Australia, making it more accessible to all!
Kelly’s a fantastic designer and does some seriously good sewing work. I’d wear her things in a heartbeat.
As for bunnies.. well. They are cute, can’t beat that!
Is the competition for Australian people only or for international readers also?
I’ll give it a go anyway!
I love One Day in Paradise because I think it’s very cool to make a very own Lolita-shop in Australia for Australian Lolita’s! Not many countries have their own shop, so I think that is very good for making the fashion easier to get to!
I love Vitae because her designs look great and the dresses seem like they are in really good quality.
And bunnies are KAWAIII!
I’m hoping this is open to international readers…
I love One Day in Paradise because it isn’t like anything I’ve seen here in the states.
I love Vitae and the bunnies because that print is amazing and it reminds me of a dress I used to wear as a kid that my mom made me (minus the bunnies).
I would love to wear that dress!
Wow! I love the dresses, they remind me of Alice in wonderland meets Japanese Anima characters. I would love to win a dress like that. The photos really made me smile and the cupcakes look so delicious!

The Vitae design is sooo cute and bunnies are so warm and fluffy – perfect for keeping me warm in winter! >_<
I like ODIP because it has such a pretty and inviting feel about it – whether you visit the shop or the gorgeous booths at one of the many cons around oz – it's sure to bring a smile to your face just looking at all the pretty clothes and accessories! XD
everything is cute, sweet and adorable. that’s why I love it
Well I am American and I love One Day in Paradise because I feel like it is creative and forward thinking for a country to get their own shop for a style of dressing that isn’t extremely popular, it lets lots of people have access to it.
I love Vitae because that dress is seriously to die for! I love the look of the fabric, the design, and the quality.
As a fashion icon to a 3.5 year old I feel it’s my duty to expose her to all differenty types of fashion. She gets a real kick out of seeing me dress up and I can’t imagine she’d like anything better than bunnies, chicks, hearts and bows! For myself. I like this dress because it’s so whimsical and would allow me to feel like a kid again when I am wearing it.
I love it, it reminds me of my childhood where my mother would sew dresses for me using whimsical fabrics like these. One of my favorite childhood frocks is a green with white lace dress, with vegetable patches and bunnies printed on it.
I love One Day In Paradise because I love strawberries, hearts, bunnies and bows. Basically everything that the gorgeous pink dress in the pictures has to offer!
I love it, it’s the type of skirts I imagine myselfy wearing if they were readily available in Australia (& QLD!!) lol. To me it is very Bella in Bindyland (also the name of my blog.) It’s colorful, bright, has cute animals and a totally adorable print on it… what’s not to love.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful skirt/print/designer with us.
<3 Stunning as always SKM.
Wow everyone looks so cute!
I love the curly long hair on some of the girls as well!
I really love Japanese anime and these dresses would really allow me to ‘transform’ into some of my favourite anime characters!!!
I love One Day in Paradise because the Lolita look is so adorable, and it’s so awesome that the scene is being represented in Australia.
The Vitae design is hands-down the cutest I’ve ever seen! It reminds me of a pinafore I used to wear as a little girl, and the bunnies and whatnot are so precious. I adore the Alice in Wonderland vibe, and would love to go out on the town in one of these dresses.
And the bunnies! How could anyone not love the bunnies? They are so so SO squeal-inducingly cute! I especially love how curious the little brown bunny looks as he sniffs at the baby chicken.
I love them because a Vitae dress with bunnies on it means your spending one Day in Paradise. Any outfit that make you smile simply by thinking about it is one you just have to have.
Happy easter darling ones
This is undeniably one of the cutest things ever on your blog! I cannot get over the detail in this outfit, it’s just so precious! Here there is a nice alternative scene, but very little lolita fashion. Sweet lolita is the best for spring time!
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by gnomeangel, Candice DeVille. Candice DeVille said: Love Bunnies? Love cute? Then ENTER to WIN your very own Vitae Clothing Dress! http://bit.ly/aaaQbC [...]
I too hope this is open to international readers! A friend from Australia sent me the link to that shop a few months ago to show me their headbows and I’ve coveted their beautiful things ever since. I’d love to have a dress or skirt from this line — I love the idea of being able to put on something so charmingly childlike yet chic! It’s like wearable cotton candy! Or a cupcake come to life!
Actually there’s a relatively big lolita scene here in Melbourne at least! Around approximately 35 – 40 girls or so that I know of, but there were so many who couldn’t make it to that tea party, including me
Which is saddening! It looks like it was really fun ? I’ve read your blog a bit now and then and always admired your style – it would have been so lovely to meet you and Vitae.
I love ODiP: Because Marie is a gorgeous, wonderful seller who genuinely cares about her customers and the quality of the products she brings in for us. She’s always been ridiculously helpful when I go to visit her and I can always rely on her for strange coordinate pieces I’m after! She also offers services to local lolitas as well, such as allowing them to sell their second-hand clothes through her.
I love Vitae: Because she has taken the plunge for something that she loves, and I really admire her for it! And her print is adorable; thankyou for using tulle lace ?
I love Bunnies: Because they’re soft. And scared of me!
…I’m kidding. It’s because they’re cute!
Ah Exciting! I have found that Australia seems to be a little behind sometimes when it comes to online stores and it’s so pleasing to see the success of a new designer. Lolita is still a rare thing to see in Australia and I really love that One Day in Paradise offers pieces at fair prices as with most things overseas, shipping and conversion can be a real trouble. I love this collaboration for many reasons, Vitae’s new print is adorable and most definitely wearable! It may also help encourage new designers and seamstresses to come out of hiding and express themselves through gorgeous lolita dresses. I, too, am also a mother and people in my small outback town think my lolita dresses are weird but I simply love to be a Super Kawaii Mama too! (I can’t hold a candle to you Candice!)
Also, Unrelated but I LOVED your sweet as a sundae post, you should wear lolita pieces more often! You make give a lovely mature dignified look yet still quite playful, I’m also really envious of your shoes!
Lauren: Thank you! I realy loved that Sundae outfit. It was so fun and bouncy and girly, yet as you say a more mature version. Keep up the good work being a super kawaii mama too!
Whoops I just noticed I said ‘make give’ stupid ;P Although I’m sure my message got across!
I love One Day in Paradise and Vitae because it’s the opportunity for Australia to have it’s own brand and promote the lolita fashion down here! Our own homegrown style!
As for bunnies? Everybody loves bunnies! soft and squishy and they taste great slow cooked… wait
I love One Day in Paradise because Marie has been really lovely and helpful, its also great to have such an accessible and cheap store for Australian lolita’s!
I love vitae and Usagi’s high tea because its an absolutely gorgeous print and looks really beautiful in real life. Its also awesome to have an australian lolita brand
and I love bunnies because they’re adorable :3
Ooh, not for the first time do I wish I were in Melbourne instead of Sydney! It looks like it was a wonderful day.
Well, here we go:
I love One Day in Paradise because it’s fantastic that an Aussie lolita is taking entrepreneurial initiative to bring the fashion closer to (and on!) our shores. Part of this means supporting other aspiring Australian designers, especially Vitae clothing! They have the most adorable prints that any lolita worth her sweet tooth would want, without sparing any quality. It’s really wonderful that Vitae are getting a great start.
As for bunnies.. well.. they make me speechless. With joy. Before the squeals come in.
I love One Day in Paradise because it’s an Australian lolita store and being Aussie, it makes me very happy because i can get real loli stuffs locally
:D
Vitae is a loli brand but what makes it even better is that it’s completely aussie and that’s why i totally loveee vitae!! -Aussie Pride- xD
Bunnies are just totally cute. You seriously can’t not love bunnies. >w<
i love one day in paradise because everything is cute and pink! adorable!
I love the Lolita look but have never been game enough to try and pull it off due to my Amazonian proportions but this print may have just changed my mind!
How can you not love bunnies and strawberries in one lovely design? A gorgeous day in paradise indeed.
Omg. Bunnies and strawberries, what a lovely way to usher in spring.
I hope your contest is open to the U.S!
I am jealous and want to go to a super cute lolita tea party.
I love the one day in paradise because it gives of the sense of community that isn’t really common nowadays, the simple pleasure of fellow lolita fans coming together for a tea party really fills me with joy. Sadly as a fourteen year old, I don’t find this kind of thing in the U.K. unless it’s with elder women that don’t dress up in lolita clothing. I really wish there was a shop selling lolita clothing somewhere, but my sister can’t even find any in London @.@;; I adore lolita prints and clothing! and the bunnies and baby chicks are just too cute! ^_^
Vitae designs are flawed! 100% flawed. The stiching isnt up to standard, and the last 3 dresses i have bought from Miss Kelly and her Vitae brand have all been returned for repairs with only 1 or 2 wears to them. The stiching has literally come apart at the seams and i have no idea why.
The review and images are stunning, it is a complete shame that One Day In Paradise has copped a lot flak for Kelly’s terrible work and has since ceased all dealings with her
Anyone reading this, I urge you to think twice before purchasing any item with the Vitae tag or being sold by Kelly. She does TERRIBLE work, and you are being ripped off considering the price. Its a shame such beautiful fabrics and designs are worse quality than a cosplay lolita costume.
I disagree. Since this post, I have gone on to buy two pieces from Vitae as I was really interested in her print choices. I now have the Usagi’s High Tea skirt in pink and her Mushroom Kingdom JSK in blue and I am thoroughly impressed with both pieces. Both pieces have great effort put into the print, extra consideration with smaller details like double sided waist ties (I have quite a few brand pieces with only one-sided waist ties, which I’m not fond of) or matching buttons/accessories. I have worn the heck out of both pieces and have handwashed both without any issues with the print or the stitching. If you’d like proof, I’d gladly take photos of the excellent stitching job as honestly, I’m skeptical of your claims as your comment comes off as a smear campain.
A smear campaign would be more involved than one post Lauren. A negative opinion doesn’t automatically mean the world is out to get Vitae. I have seen better sewing on a cosplay costume from a korean sweat-shop. And we all know how bad they can be.
All I’ve stated above is from personal experience, if having an opinion from personal experience is a crime, then i will stand as guilty.
I haven’t attacked Kelly as a person, just simply stated her products up for sale are faulty from my own experience and witnessed friends who have also purchased an item from her.
We can split hairs until the pigs come home about all of this. Maybe a negative comment and feedback might help her improve her sewing.
I stand by my statement that her items are a waste of money considering the quality and price.
I felt it was more the fact that you needed to come back and reply over a year after the original post was made. It comes across as Vendetta-like, it’s not unreasonable of me to feel that way. As a happy customer I feel it’s only fair for me to provide my wonderful personal experience so others can make up their mind whether or not to purchase from her. I’m not sure how involved in lolita commuities you are but generally bad reviews are paired with proof pictures, otherwise it’s just balderdash. You could say the same about my positive comments but I think most people would agree that it’s much fairer to provide proof when you’re going to slam someone’s business, it can have a pretty large impact and you should generally have evidence supporting it.
“Maybe a negative comment and feedback might help her improve her sewing.”
If this were truly the case, you’d be emailing her, not posting negative reviews on old blog posts.
And also, I find your comment about the ‘Korean sweat shop’ to be highly offensive. Think about what you type publicly if you’re trying to make your impression stick.
