I love coming up with brand new ways to wear my favorite things! I have this gorgeous red dress; in fact I do believe that everyone including red heads, needs a killer red dress in their wardrobe. So, I have this gorgeous red dress and it is just something else. It is a 1950′s full skirted, cord dress. Found for me by the lovely Nicole at Circa Vintage (where it seems most of my money lives) it was one of those heart stoppers that I knew had to be mine. I watched it on the rack for a day and even encouraged a friend to try it on in the hope that I could get over another obsession. But, happily, it was not to be and this little red dress came home to make itself as one of my all time favorites that is likely to make it into the heirloom collection.
Anyway, back to my original point, the different styling. To date, I had only worn this dress in a very high contrast, super slick type of manner. Very strong hair, black accessories, shiny shoes. But on this occasion (shopping and taking a friend to the airport) I wanted something softer. In a moment of, “oh duh” I realised that I had not yet created any red and pink combinations with all the things in my wardrobe, so with the help of a new baby pink snood and the BEST jacket from Angel Sissi, this combination was born.

I have many hair nets picked up at 1940′s/vintage events but never get around to wearing them in everyday life, must get them out inspired by how great your hair looks here!
Woo that dress is fabulous! I agree about the red dress thing too – we all need one. Makes you feel a million bucks
That dress is SO fabulous on you, I’m glad you got it! I’m still looking for my perfect red vintage dress, but I did find a nice magenta one so getting closer.
Really like the new layout too, very easy to navigate!

Kate: Oh dear me! How easily you part me from my money.. it is divine and on sale! Will I , won’t I… arghh.. <3 thank you ^-^
I love your lip colour! You always seem to have the most gorgeous vintage dresses!
Yet another truly inspiring outfit, red and baby pink always look so lovely together! Any chance of a close-up of the shoes? They look delish!
That looks gorgeous! I love your fringe rolls too. My hair is so fine and straight it takes such a effort to get it to do anything like that!
I have red hair, but I bought a red jumper at Christmas and I think it looked ok, so I have my eye on a red dress next.
I love this! The one thing I’ve found about red dresses is they tend to scream “more formal” (or dressy), unless they’re made out of a super casual fabric. So it’s really refreshing to see a red dress mixed in a way that is more day-to-day practical. Love your shoes especially!

I that dress, and I love, love, love, red corduroy! I’m actually planning to make my baby girl a beautiful red corduroy coat for autumn/winter, as I inherited my fiance’s darling mother’s vintage patterns.

I completely agree – a red dress is a must. And this one is glorious!
Any chance of a hair tutorial on how to get that magic fringe roll effect? Gorgeous.

this is SO cute SKM! That dress is wonderful and the snood is perfection with it
What a stunning little red dress! I absolutely agree, I think a gorgeous ruby frock is a wardrobe essential for every girl. Nicole always has the most beautiful pieces, I really must drop in again soon!
I’ve been a bit behind with blogland as I’ve been overseas, but belated congratulations on the Friends of Couture appointment! It’s wonderful news and I can’t wait to see your delightful creations.

Belle: Thank you! I trust you enjoyed your trip, I’m loving your blog so so much. <3
Pink and red is the greatest colour combo to wear…I, frankly think that EVERY colour goes with red, well perhaps not yellow or orange or it may look Winnie the Pooh or Ronald McDonald
Love the frilly jacket!! I jumped for joy this morning because after all the horrible hot weather Perth has been having it was cold enough to bring out the bolero…bring on the cool weather, I can’t wait!!! Hooray!
Now I WANT a red dress. With my brown skin, I just don’t think I will look good in one…
Gorgeous gorgeous dress Candice, so jealous! I want it : )
Hi Candice and vintage fashionistas
So glad to be part of another year and following the trends of Melb with you. Sitting here in my studio I certainly do not feel lonely reading what all the fashionistas of Melbourne are up to! Now for that red dress…mwaaaa!!! Looks like a million dollars…is that what you paid for it???!!
There is a retail shop called Dear Gladys in Northcote that caters for the fashionistas who wear vintage.(You might of heard of it). It was set up to help support a not-for-profit organisation called Fitted for Work that I help and support in between my busy schedule. They offer a service to disadvantaged women in the community who want a job or wanting to get back into the workforce and guide them through that process – see http://www.fittedforwork.org for all info. They are having a fundraiser at the moment called Fashion Challenge – http://www.fashionchallenge.org Check it out…it’s a bit of fun for all the people who love fashion.
Look forward to spending the year with you Super Kawaii and all you girly girls. Debra Mar xx
