During my trip to Sydney over Christmas I had a few hair disasters. Whether it was the heat and humidity or the windy weather, I didn’t come prepared for either and it left me at a bit of a loss for ideas as to how to fix my hair.  I wanted something chic and simple that could be achieved quickly and with very little, if any, product.  So  I put on my thinking cap, did a little experimenting and came up with a winning solution.

A Chic & Simple Hair Tutorial A Chic & Simple Hair Tutorial A Chic & Simple Hair Tutorial A Chic & Simple Hair Tutorial

You saw it in my latest Vlog and requested the tutorial, so here you are!

Enjoy!

  1. Your hair looks fantastic!

But more importantly – that hair bow! So cute! Could you tell me where you got it please? :)

  2. ?Lola says:

Thanks for the video tutorial, it was really helpful. Looks great :)

  3. Wren says:

Nice! I have had a few hair disasters of my own, believe me.

    Nice blog!

  4. That looks great! I could probably do that!

  5. Vicky says:

Thanks for sharing this cute hairstyle! It looks great on your hair as its lovely and thick. i might try this with mine but it may look different as I have really fine hair!

  6. Paige Turner says:

I have been doing a hairstyle similar to this for ages. I love how quick it is in the mornings when I have slept in, and I need to rush to a class for 8:30am. It looks cute!

    Cheers!

    It’s a “thinking bunny”!

  8. Christine says:

Wow love it! Looks nice and easy yet very chic thanks for sharing!

  9. aurelia says:

This sort of thing is one of my favorites for winter. It keeps my hair from being damaged my rubbing on my wooly sweaters and it plays nicely with the hood of my parka.

I use combs on both front sides because I don’t like my pins to show. On the back I pull the ponytail up the opposite direction so it fountains over the top of my hair elastic, then roll it and secure with two large bobbie pins. I use smooth, large roller pins because they are easier to take out of my fine, thin hair without breaking hair.

I don’t get the nice rolls along either side of the back of my head that way, but the aforementioned fine, thin hair tend to make those look pretty anemic anyway. My method makes my hair look fuller.

Thanks so much for the video! It’s always nice to see what others are doing!

  10. Collette says:

That’s so gorgeous! It’s just my kind of hairstyle. Very 1940′s, very chic, very glam. I’ll be trying this soon. Thanks for the tutorial.

  11. floraposte says:

Looks great and simple enough to construct too! My hair is a bit too long for this at the moment I think I would be looping it around for ages. Definitely need a trim!

  12. Lisa says:

Thank you so much for creating a tutorial! My hair is on the finer side and curly so I’m not sure exactly how it will turn out in my hair but I’m definitely going to try and make it work!

  13. HIredRose says:

It looks so sleek! Also, SO customizable. It looks like it would be pretty if one just finished up at a couple of those stages, like after the two rolls, with the back down, or with the back in the ponytail.

Part of what I love about your blog is that I feel like I can do these pretty things with myself no matter what my situation. Thanks so much!

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Hired Rose: Very customisable. If you check out my You Tube chanel you’ll find a few different options using that side twist / roll technique.

  14. floraposte says:

At the moment the hair is just 4 inches or so from my waist! Too long to be manageable for chic styling.

    • Ginger says:

floraposte – my mother’s hair was below the waist and she could do this (and several others you wouldn’t think could be done)- the longer hair will actually add to the style, the only concern would be the thickness of the hair shaft (as longer hair tends to be a tad thinner) but mom made up for it by using Dippitty-Do, I think any good mousse would work just as well.

  15. You make it look so easy! This is the reason why I need to buy those comb thingies.

  16. Karolina says:

Thank you so much for this idea. And it came right in time for me. I had exam with one strange profesor. And to him looks was quite important. So this hairdo was perfect. Simple to do and looked very nice, stylish, but not to much.

  17. hammie says:

And that is why there is a haircut known as the Brisbane Crop. A Mia Farrow/Dolores from The Cranberries/Maggie from Northern Exposure hair cut that even channel Ten newsreaders have in the tropical north.

But your solution is much purtier.

(take into account the harder water too – bring neutrogena or somekind of alkaline shampoo in the suitcase next time)

    xx

  18. Thanks for this! I tried it today and loved it! This sent my onto you tube and I found this

I tried it and while my hair is a bit short it was still ok

    thanks again!

  19. Suzy says:

Oh I love this. I am always looking for new hairstyles to try…and then watching you loop your ponytail through again and again…I remembered that I used to do that to my hair all the time when I was little! (never pinned it up though)

So I cant wait to try this one in the morning and bring back memories of trying to deal with my very long very thick hair in primary school :)

  20. Ginger says:

Very nice style – reminds me of some of the photos of my Mother when she was an early post-WW2 bride. Only one thing I would suggest – that hair comb should be on the inside of the side roll so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb, or use a comb that is decorated with a large flower which will hide it. Alternately, my mother would use bobby pins to hold her rolls in place – my mother cornered the market on bobby pins when I was growing up.

  21. Nico says:

I love this hairstyle! I was wondering what lipstick you’re wearing here. It’s lovely!

  22. Suzy says:

Just wanted to pop in and say a big thankyou – this is now my easy-daily-hairstyle, so quick and easy to do. I’ve had lots of lovely comments on it too :)

  23. Tia says:

Hi Candice! I wanted to share this with you as I’ve just started using this ‘do’ as my daily go to, now that my hair is almost shoulder length. I have very curly, quite fine hair (but lots of it), so if not for my curl I’d have no volume at all. But I do love that it does a half wave all by itself in my fringe area.

I thought I’d take a photo this morning (it’s not great and I’ve not put any makeup on today). It went up straight from being washed as today is a busy day, but it still looks “done”. Once it dries out, I will probably take it out, brush it out a little and redo it.

I found that even with finer, shorter hair the style is very possible. Only changes I made was using sprung hair clips instead of a slide/pins, and a decorative hair tie for a home day. I also only have enough length for one back twist and not two. But it CAN be done, and look good.

  24. Cammie says:

That was fantastic. I will definitely try that. Thankyou for making a classic looking hairdo simple yet gorgeous!

  25. Kirsty says:

Beautiful Hairstyle I must have to try but you made it look easy…
    but it looks beautiful

  26. dayana says:

easy and pretty! im going to give it a try for sure
