I’ve been having the best time these holidays. I’ve had Mr. SKM all to myself for a little while so we’ve been attempting to get out together a little bit more. People often ask me whether Mr. SKM is also into all things vintage and retro, but I have to admit that I am alone on that island in this household. Even so, there are a few things we have in common. Our love of Sci Fi T.V, Kung Fu action movies and EATING! I’m no brilliant cook and as he tells me since I started blogging, I spend even less time in the kitchen, but still I love food. Now, I’m not going all ‘Food Blogger’ on you, but I’ve been asked to occasionally share snippets of what I’m doing in what I’m wearing, so here goes.
Last night we went on a bit of a date night to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie (which as an aside was crackingly good!) and proceeded it with a bit of a ‘pot luck’ dinner. By that I don’t mean a 1970′s style dinner where everyone shows up to your house in lounge pajamas with a casserole, but the type of dinner you haven’t booked and don’t know where to go until something just jumps out at you. And what jumped out to us was Kam Fook at Westfield Doncaster.
Right off the bat I loved the decor and the pretty pretty crockery. It suited my Princess mood perfectly.
And then I see Princess Tofu on the menu! Oh this is going to be a good night!
Sheer heaven on a plate! By FAR the best Salt and Pepper squid I have ever eaten. I believe you can tell the measure of a Chinese restaurant by the standard of their Salt and Pepper Squid and the calibre of their dumplings. Kam Fook – you win for me.
Ironically, even though I live in the Antipodes I still bought a bottle of water from… Antipodes?! After the trials of the Christmas and New Year party season I am trying to be good to my body but still trick it into thinking that I am having something special, hence the bottled sparkling water.
Can’t you just taste it?

Oh I haven’t seen that place – I’ve only been to the new Westfield Doncaster a few times.
I’m off to see Sherlock Holmes tomorrow night after dinner and drinks at the Sherlock Holmes Inn.
I know it’s cheesy but how can I resist?
Ahhh now you’ve gotten me craving on Salt and Pepper Squid!
I really do love anything sparkling….. and Ika.. is my favorite too!
The mint colour looks so pretty on you
And the salt and pepper squid is making me hungry!
I found your blog yesterday, and I just wanted to tell you that you are so pretty!!!
I love the 1940′s look. The movies from that time are my favorite (1930′s-1940′s)
Sometimes you need something refreshing after all that Christmas.
Usually, for me, it involves lemon.
my boyfriend doesnt share my passion for the 40′s-50′s but I am okay with it…. I swear he loves me for my cooking too hahahaha! I love to cook!! one negative about loving the 40′s…. I get no kisses with my ruby woo lipstick on…. BOO!
I love that blouse of yours, is it vintage? If so, luckyyyyy!
Hello!
I’ve discover your lovely blog so I add you to mine! I’m impressed! It’s cute!!!!
I also love that blouse!
That squid looks yummy, too
hmmm. food court. real classy!!
Meredith: Actually, Kam Fook isn’t a food court, but a restaurant. We do have some decent food courts here, but not quite fancy enough for things like lobster, sea cucumber and Princess Tofu!
HMR: The blouse was quite a find ($5) at a little store in ChinaTown Sydney. I’ve never worn that colour before as it is very hard to find, but so lovely.
Here I am trying not to be homesick and you go and show me one of the greatest things about Australia – excellent asian food in suburban shopping towns. grunt!
Honey Bumble{I am back a week now and while I would have loved to get away for a day’s thrifting in Melbourne, I didn’t even get to do it in Ballarat this time. Boo anxiety and a very busy family pre-cluded.
Tout va bien, my beloved Imelda-Mike came down on the train for lunch on Sturt Street and a little light Kaftan shopping in the oppies – while my sister and nephew minded Boo.
Maybe next time? You are looking radiant by the way. Happy 2010! xx
Hammie: Well either way I’m glad you enjoyed your time back here, even if it was somewhat curbed. I ws incredibly impressed seeingyour iPhone app yesterday. Amazing achievement! And a Happy 2010 to you and yours. xx
Loving the princess mood, and how everything just fit!
Like yourself, I too am into the sci fi, as you probably have guessed from my Facebook entries.
