Horray! It is tutorial time again. Thanks to my new Kodak Zi8, I can finally create much better tutorials, and thanks to Mr SKM who has been working hard to fix my software, I can finally edit them properly. Okay, the editing I am still working on, but I’m getting there.

Today’s tutorial is the first in a series on how I use the Bumpits hair inserts.  These are designed to give lift and volume where you would have traditionally needed lots of teasing to achieve the look.  This look is a simple updo that takes three minutes to achieve and can be just a classy or cute as you like – it all depends on the accessories you add.

This is great! Lately I have been watching youtube tutorials on how to get a Brigitte Bardot-type bouffant… there is of course A LOT of teasing and I’m thinking, that can’t be good for my hair long-term. I have thought about getting these bumpits before and I think I might actually order some now. You did that very quickly!
That blouse you are wearing is lovely too btw!

  2. Libertad says:

Mama, awesome as always… Now I wish my hair was long again just for doing this!! It’s a great tutorial!

  3. Sistinas says:

Wow!! Awesome.., you did it super quick! And it looks so easy!!
    Now I want bumpits too!!

  4. Amandine says:

The footage has lovely, rich colour with your new camera! Thank you for being so kind as to make this. Like EmilyKate, I’ve been wondering if they’d give me a Brigitte Bardot style without the mountains of teasing. The name always makes me snort in a completely juvenile way!

Thanks for a lovely tutorial. You explained this so clearly and it’s a fantastic hairstyle. I watched it on my handheld, and your dark hair blended in with the background, but I could still replicate it just from your instructions.

    Keep up the excellent work.

PS: I found this hairstyle to be sturdy enough to withstand an energetic amount of rough-and-tumble at the hands of a boisterous 1yr old lad. Hooray for hairspray!

Adorable! And easy, by the look of it. It will be a cute ‘do for those nights that stretch into early mornings.

    Cheers!

Cute as usual :D I love anything that avoids teasing, your end result is cute and yay for the new camera! Until they make a mega-crazy-hime size one I think I’ll stick to my hair piece, her name is Shanieiecqkwau (pronounced Shaneekwa) :D

Terrific tutorial, thank you for posting it!

I’d been wanting to try Bumpits for quite a while (since the first time I saw the TV commercial for them), but worried that my super fine/very thin hair wouldn’t hide them. I bought a set of three (Bumpits) last summer and eagerly tried them out, but my suspicions were confirmed, there was no way on earth my hair could cover them.

I’ve since heard that one solution to this is to use a small clip in piece of faux (or real, wig quality) hair, from a beauty supply shop, clipped into your own hair (this additional piece is used to help camouflage the Bumpit).

I haven’t tried that method yet myself, but may one day. I’m not giving up on Bumpits, that much is sure, and will keep trying to get them to work with my fine hair.

Wishing you a gorgeous Monday & week ahead!

  9. That was a great tutorial! The sound was perfect this time:) I might have to give these Bumpits a try, I have thick, boofy curly hair, and am always looking for something new. Because my hair is heavy, it tends to sit flatter at the top, the longer it gets. So these would be perfect.

  10. Chrissie says:

I love your headband! One reader commented about buying the extension to help work the Bumpit. However, there is a product that is awesome and has faux hair attached. The Vidal Sassoon Hair Poufs are available at bombshellbeauty.com. They are the original hair bumping styling tool. They are like a little pillow with hair attached and they clip securely into place.
I found the Bumpits do not work especially with thin hair. Good luck.

  11. Great tutorial! Your hair is adorable. Come on over to my place today for a little award waiting for you.

    xo,

Fantastic tutorial, I have my bumpits (teehee!) but haven’t had a chance to give them more than a cursory try but now I have a proper idea of how to work them (rather than the bizarre suggestion in the instructions that you fit them all into your hair at once!) I’m going to give them a go this week!

  13. Jaede says:

Looks great and so easy to use, I just wish I had enough hair for one!

  14. Leanne says:

What a great look, and lovely tutorial! I’ve teased my hair many times in the past to get a bouffy look, but want to give this a try (even though I have fine hair; we’ll see how it goes).

  15. w says:

i’ve got a set of bumpits, too, but i just couldn’t get them to work on my head :p i first tried it when my hair was still really long, and then again after i got it chopped 13″ later… so i gave up :p you look beautiful! i might wanna give it another try hehe :p thanks for sharing! :) xoxo

  16. oh yay!! You got the Bumpits! I got them last summer and truly love them. Great tutorial! xo

  17. Ok, I need to buy some of these and be brave enough to give it a go – I am SO crap with hair, I need my hairdresser to style it *blushes*

I think you are the blogospheres queen of hairstyles!

  18. Beatrix says:

Oooh! I’ve never even seen these before! I’ll have to hunt some down and give them a go. I’m pretty sure traditional teasing will snap all my bleach damaged hair right off!

Also: Your voice is so dreamy! Is that weird to say? Love it!

And finally: Yay Camille! I adore her voice too!
