I may be a vintage queen, but that doesn’t mean I’m always wearing red nails, because like most things variety is the key to having a bit of fun! So this week’s nails sees me having a crack at my own DIY Japanese style nail art. I have had to tone it down a bit so the girls don’t loose an eye to a diamante, but I still had to amp up the sparkle factor.

I made this set with a distinctly girly feel and paired them with my little 1940’s cropped cardigan, which made an unseasonal appearance yesterday as the temperature plummeted here in Melbourne! From a top of 38 degrees to 16 degrees in one week!

They are a combination of three different polishes, glitter, two kinds of diamantes and a sealer!

What do you think? Worth all the effort?

Weeee! They turned out really nicely :D I really like the mixture of diamantes and glitter! Seriously cute.

  2. genkitten says:

Adorable! And your bracelet is gorgeous!

  3. Scribbles says:

I do love… I’m a total klutz though, so the pretty would last about a minute if I was wearing them but I do think they are adorable :)

  4. EmilyKate says:

Well they look amazing, definitely your efforts have produced a beautiful result. And I think it would be fun to make them/paint them initially. I suppose the ‘worth the trouble?’ question is more a matter of whether you can maintain the upkeep/perform your necessary daily activities and not marr them or get them snagged… actually you now have a perfect excuse not to wash dishes or do food preparation ;o)

  5. Miss Emmi says:

My nails tend to chip and peel by the fourth day – I hope for your sake these ones don’t! It’d be a pain to go through all that effort every week. That said, they’re looking fab!

  6. Wikifashion says:

Definitely worth the effort! They look so pretty :)

  7. WendyB says:

Love! I’m going to get a special manicure tomorrow. Hopefully it will be photo-worthy!

  8. oh-la-la they look spectacular! If only school allowed nail polish :(

ASAB: Don’t worry, its nearly all over then you’ll be FREE!
Wendy B: Ooh, can’t wait to see them!
Wiki fashion: Excellent – thank you. :)
Miss Emmi: Mine used to too, until I switched to this style. Using the stick on nails they don’t chip crack or peel! I get at least two weeks wear from these before damage sets in! then I just soak them off in water. Win!
Emily Kate: These do pretty well as I’ve sealed all the jewels and wear gloves to wash up. I keep them shorter so I can still do all the usual kid stuff without drama.
Scribbles: They are easier to wear than you’d think, but I know what you mean.
Genkitten: Another Singapore purchase – last minute at the airport too! :)
      Violet: Spanx cutie!

  9. Lady Smaggle says:

Oh I love these! I used to have acrylic in high school… alas being a jeweller I can no longer have them. Sob!

  10. How adorable! And am loving the cold weather here in Sydney too after all this heat!

I haven’t tried this sort of nail art, but am keen to have a go one day. I keep wondering how it’d go to shake the glitter on top of the wet polish, just on the section it’s meant for, and masking off the other areas with a french mani sticker? I must try that!
