Usually Melbourne Cup Day rolls around for me in a flurry of tulle skirts and frippery. It is a day filled with sun, champagne and far too much food. However, this year I skipped the formal festivities in favour of a very quiet day spent with my family. I’m still recovering from a lack of sleep and too many parties in the last few weeks, and am dragging myself around with a head cold and a strong desire not to change out of my pajamas. But being the girl I am, going to lunch in my pajamas just wouldn’t do, so instead I opted for an incredibly simple, comfortable outfit that was the next best thing.
Outfit Details:
Shirt -super soft cotton from Traceinny.com blog shop Wide Leg Pants – Living Doll
Summer Wedges – Wittner Swarovski Bracelet
Hat – vintage 1950′s Men’s straw fedora
It certainly didn’t have the usual fanciness quotient, but it was great for napping on the couch!

It’s a lovely lounging outfit, without being schleppy. Well done!
Cheers!

Hey luv… I really like the simplicity of your porch, and of course the outfit, splendid! You are in Brisbane, right?
I was actually wondering what your outfit would be for Melbourne Cup day, lol! So sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well, but you still look fabulous! You should see me when I’m sick, I look like a walking corpse! So, well done!!
Hear Mum Roar: Oh thank you. If I’d been up for it, I had am amazing cup outfit planned for a day at the races. I may just save it for christmas instead.
Ta muchly.
April Marie Claire: I can’t take credit for the simplicity of the porch.. it is my mum’s house…in Melbourne! I’m in Melbourne too, but the wicker furniture and ferns make it look somewhat more tropical. I love that feel.
ASAB: Thanks, it is my one and only white shirt and black pants!
Kassie:
Emma: Me too! Those floaty white shirts with hats always put me in mind of Katherine Hepburn in The African Queen. That is exactly what I was hoping for.
Paige: What is this “Schleppy” you speak of? An unknown concept around here. ;P
Simple, but oh so elegant!
You always put together the loveliest looks!
Wow, you look amazingly gorgeous! Could you do a post on how to look fabulous even when you don’t feel fabulous?
LOVE the outfit babe! still cant figure out how to wear the BF shirt! argh!
wow! this makes me want an iced tea!

I see images of an African resort with adventures waiting to be had.

So chic!
Lovely fedora
Makes me want to re-watch Out of Africa!
Love it, I think you outdid the men on this one!
Fabulous, as always. And lovely to see a Melbournian on Melbourne Cup day not rockin’ her frockin’ – especially one who doesn’t need the excuse of Cup Day to frock up anyway!
Tee hee, you look a lot more sophisticated in your ‘comfy’ outfit than did a lot of the people I’ve shared the train home with during this racetime
)
Sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly my love.
You look amazing however, and every bit the glamours Fashionista we all know and love.
The girls attending the races could stand to learn a thing or two from you!
Xx
i always find white shirts utterly sexy. this is a winning outfit. you look great.
So effortlessly chic, I love it!
Wow, just stumbled across your blog!- its great!
The porch looks a lot like my grandmother’s old house- house next door looks familiar!
I’m from Melbourne too, is this in Coburg?
Renea: Hi there and thanks.
No, not in Coburg. It is a 1929 Californian Bungalow home and there are a number around all over Melbourne.
You just can’t beat the simple chic of a perfect white shirt, anywhere, anytime! All that’s missing is Robert Redford to bring you your favourite drink or afternoon tea on the porch! Just digging up my DVD’s of The Great Gatsby and Out of Africa….
