Okay, sorry but I just could resist that title! For some of you this is going to be old, old news. The kind where I hear you say, “OMG you didn’t know that?!”
For some time now, I’ve been in love with the totally over the top Japanese 3D manicures. The lace, pearls and Hello Kitty faces that make it impossible to undertake any kind of activity short of posing prettily on a toad stool like a fairy tale Princess. But I still really wanted some! I had no idea how I was going to find the time or the supplies to give myself this kind of manicure, nor how it would last past even one morning of dressing struggling toddlers. But I was willing to give it a try in the name of beauty science.
I’m still yet to take a dive off the decora nail deep end, but am dipping a toe to see what happens and whether or not I put an eye out in the process. I’ve always had excellent natural nails. The kind that are long and strong, but the curse of that is that I often use them as tools and experience rather painful breakages. Also, the ever changing inspirations behind my wardrobe, see me wanting to change the length, shape and colour day in day out. I’ve tried acrylics ( and removed them rather painfully during mid run one winter snowboarding trip), and even gel overlays. But I’m kidding myself if I think I have the time to throw away sitting in a manicurists chair every other week having them filled, filed and balanced, let alone the cost of constant maintenance.
When I was in Bangkok recently, I came across stores selling already beautifully decorated nails that could be stuck on and removed later. The last time I had stick on nails I was 12 and trying to improve my sophistication level for the Sunday School audience. I remember that those maroon nails didn’t even make it intact to the church, some falling victim to the car door handle and others to the little buckles on my shoes. And I’d never given them another go since that day. Logically, when I think about it, if C.D, mini disks, and now MP3′s had been invented since that time had passed, I figured that stick on nail technology must have also improved! So I bought myself a box of those stick ons which have remained in my drawer until yesterday…
…And I love them!
Not only do I get a full manicure in 5 minutes flat, I can just soak them off in hot water for 10 minutes and use them again another day. So I’m sold, (so far) on the new and improved stick on nails. No they aren’t the most practical for someone who does a lot of typing and all the usual child related activities, but they are a cute, fast and pretty solution when I don’t have to do those things. Although it has taken me far longer to type this post wearing them! What do you think?
Let the crazy experiments begin!

Those are adorable! Because of the colours, I think they would go with almost everything but pastels (but you don’t seem to have lots of those anyway).
As a fan of all types of false nails, I have learned that it takes a day or two to get used to the length. Darn! Too bad I live in Canada… I would rush right out and get a pair!
Cheers!

Oh! And enjoy your time with your brother!
lol those ladybug spots are cute as can be!
Love the title too!
“Super kawaii” are the only words that come to mind! Love.
Hi SKM! I’m from M’sia and would love to know what brand of stick-on nails you bought in BKK, just in case I can pick it up here. The idea of being able to soak them off without hurting my nails and reuse them is amazing!
Kahani: I’ll look it up for you, but I’ve found this works with various brands. Just soak your hands in warm to hot water for 10 minutes and they can be easily removed with damage!
Oooh they are so pretty!
Stick on nails are awesome! I use them when I can’t be bothered with acrylics, you have to email me with the design you want so I can make you a set like I mentioned on Twitter
Love them! I wonder if they sell those kind of things in Los Angeles. I imagine so. I think they are a fun accessory. And how cool you can reuse them!
Thanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
Amazing !! stick on nails that actually stick on. They look fabulous and what fun.
These are cute and awesome that they actually stick!
They are very cute but I will stick to painting my naturals.
My question is “are those blue-black fishnet stockings?” You must show us. Haha
-meream
Oh, this is “more is more” fabulous.
Wow, those are amazing!! I wonder if I can get them this side of the world.
Rosie: I am certain you can. there are plenty of places on line to buy them and some great makers on Etsy who do some incredible versions.
K-Line: Yep, more fabulous for sure!
Meream: They are blue and black fishnets! They are a striped pattern and I just love them. I wish I could buy them again…
Floraposte: Yes, that was me for ages, but I got tired of waiting for the polish to dry and then messing it up and breaking the nails. When I painted these the other day, they were fully dry in 5 minutes! And it wasn’t even a quick dry polish! The other sneaky thing is that I’ve been doing a lot of gardening and needed short nails, so these I can just put on and off without pain and damage.
I love, love the title, so intriguing, I have not had my nails done in ages.. I keep breaking them…..
Wow! I have never seen anything like those. I will have to see if I can find something like them. I don’t remember the last time I did my nails. They always get messed up from sewing!
Peldyn: Yes, sewing messes with mine too,as does much of my lifestyle which is what pushed me to trying these stick on versions. Easy on,easy off!
ohhhh so crazy so nice ^^
I love the nails, they are cutesy and kitschy but subtle enough to be worn for everyday. Have you seen this? http://thebeautifulandglammed.blogspot.com/2009/10/beauty-alert-wah-has-it-nailed.html
Poly: No, I hadn’t seen those. Thanks for the link.
Ahhh, I’m so happy you posted this! I live in Tokyo (well, 20 minutes from) and getting some OTT nails has been on my list forever. Everyone else I know wouldn’t go near them though
Can’t do anything crazy yet though because of my job… ;_;
omg these need to be on cute overload.
I love the nails. I read your posts all the time. I wanted to let you know that I gave you the Kreativ Blog Award. If you want to post it you can. Just copy the jpeg and list 7 facts about yourself and list other bloggers you like to give the award to.
eplonk: Thank you, that is very kind! I’ll come for a visit.
Jennine: Yes, the cuteness goes b varying degrees here, light and dark, subtle and wham!
Jen B: And that is why I am happy we have free will! i don’t know a single other person IRL who would wear these, but it doesn’t stop me at all. it has meant I am typing slower today, but they are making me smile so it is a good trade off! Go and get some.
Wow! Those nails are nothing short of amazing! I was served by a girl at a Japanese cafe here in Canberra recently, and her nails were abosultely encrusted with tiny little jewels and hearts. It was amazing watching her flit about, handing out orders, and sparkling the whole time.
I can’t wait to see how you style these in future posts my dear.

Absolutely adorable! And they don’t even look fake!
It’s not really of the same ilk, but you may be interested to check out Konad. I only just discovered the Konad system and although it’s designed for using on one’s own natural nails or acrylics it certainly takes nail art to the next level with ease!

I think that was a very, very clever idea ! And no, I hadn´t thougt of it myself… Just goes to show how “behind” I am
Thanks for the tip !
