She Speaks

By Super Kawaii Mama in interviews

Following on from Sunday’s post “Aren’t We Smarter Than This?“, I was asked to appear on a Sydney Breakfast radio show Mix 106.5, to discuss the issue- such as it is. As some of you have pointed out, this should be a non-issue, and yet we still have to encourage women to support each other whatever their sartorial choices. I know we are all on the same page here.

To listen to the interview I’ve embedded it here for you.

Talking about the so-called School Gate Fashion War

Fantastic interview and I totally agree with you – we should all be less critical of each other instead of bitching about what other women are wearing. There are so many more important things to think about!! :-)

  2. Angel says:

That was really good!!! I enjoyed it.

  3. KT says:

Congratulations! You have a lovely speaking voice.

I, too, am one of the those women who gets pure delight from fashion, “dressing up” and generally – putting a lot of thought into my appearance. I am still a good person too! (imagine that :) I have a love of vintage styles and I am confident enough to “stand out” in a crowd i.e. risk scrutiny and negative comments from other women. What I find is, what those negative/bitchy women are often reacting to is your confidence in yourself! your life force & vitality…etc. Which just adds further fuel to my fire :)

  4. Just wanted to say that I recently discovered your site and I LOVE IT!!!
Plus I totally agree with you and about what you explain on the radio

I could listen to Australian accents all day. :) I love the words you use for things, like “trackies,” for track pants.

  6. Melissa says:

That was a good interview; thanks for sharing.

Yes, as women, we do need to be less critical of each other. And, I agree with KT: those negative women are reacting to your (used in the general term) confidence.

    Love the accent!

    Take good care,

  7. I’m not a fashion expert, but I have to say I’ve come across this in other areas of my life. If you spend a long time doing or making something that you enjoy and that looks cool, invariably people will say ‘wow, what a waste of time’, or ‘I wish I had time to spend doing pointless stuff like that’. What they don’t realise is that they do have time to do “pointless stuff” (i.e. stuff you actually enjoy doing but has no real benefit to anyone else), but that writing a blog about watching TV or taking a photo of themselves reading a book isn’t so much fun.

Good interview – you were really confident and made your points very well. I love your site, too!

  8. Paige says:

Very well said, and I like the idea for a “Sisterhood”.

  9. Very interesting and at the same time terrifying! It really is the same school yard bullying that you hope to have left behind once you step into the real world. I suppose it’s a case of doomed if you do, doomed if you don’t so the best you can do is be comfortable with yourself, and then like you said ‘it’s water off a ducks back’.

YAAAAAY! I’ve been stalking the blog for a radio link since you tweeted about it! It was great! The deejay gal has the right idea, and you were very well-spoken and on-point. Good on you both for calling it out that this really should be a non-issue; I think you addressed it without adding further fuel to any attempt to fan a ‘fire’.

  11. Rebecca says:

Great interview SKM really enjoyed listening.
Standard uniforms for picking up the kids lol oh no!

Thanks guys! When I hung up the phone I had no clear recollection of what i had just said and hoped I didn’t say anything stupid! Listen back I was pleased though. There was so much more I’d like to have said, but very difficult when you’re put on the spot. :)

      • hammie says:

A nice cheap Anti-depressant! that is exactly what I am talking about.

And who says you can’t wear the pretty clothes all day? And who says you cant throw your pretty clothes in the washing machine covered in finger prints and what have you, at the end of the day!

        xx
