You’ve seen this dress before, it is one of my winter favorites. A 1970′s does 1940′s styled knit dress, with the wildest poppy print. I love the sweetheart neckline and the princess seaming. But most of all I love the fact that even as such a memorable dress, it is still so versatile in how it can be styled.  Today I went for big hair (I’m all about big hair this week) and played around more with a darker eye and light lip.  With all the red and big hair going on here, a bright red lip would have been too too much. So I let the dress speak for itself and took my makeup cues from Bridget Bardot, adding my little black cat earrings for luck.

I’ve been all enthused this week. I get a bee in my bonnet about certain things and just can’t let it go.  Then it becomes and all consuming obsession, as you saw earlier in the week, that turns into me wearing a blue sequined sweat shirt – should I have managed to get my hands on one! Such is the delight and hazard of blogging for a living; I can never think of something I don’t want next.

So this weekend I plan to indulge some of my fantasies and play dress ups!

Give myself a DIY  manicure that is completely impractical but totally gorgeous!

Decorate a box for Miss 4 to keep all her hair things in and keep them out of my fruit bowl!

Use exclamation marks in a gratuitous manner!

Go present shopping for Miss 4′s upcoming birthday. I’ve been asked for a Nintendo DS, new bike, iPod, mobile phone and a unicorn pony with wings. An old fat pony with a stick on horn and wings looks more likely!

Finish reading my book while drinking hot chocolate full of raspberry pink marshmallows

Do you dress for the season you’re in or for the season you want to feel? One of my tricks to surviving the winter blues is by breaking out all the outfits that make me happy. The spring florals, the summer brights and the just because I love them, sparkles. It is only the beginning of June, but already I am feeling the need to perk it up and bit, loose the seriousness of winter and dance in the rain.

What are your fool proof outfit pick me up’s?

It is well and truly Winter here now. The rain has set in and the sky is grey, it is the perfect weather for big coats and stompy boots. Time to break out my favorite winter “Lumber Jack” skirt! I found this one a good five years ago and it is still going strong, blanketing me with its cosy warmth. Imagine being able to wear a nana rug on your lap all day, digging your hands into the pockets when the wind whips up. That is the beauty of this skirt.  And for something a little different I’ve toned down the usual red lip and gone for something lighter with a smoky eye and bedroom hair. I love having a signature look, but I also hate being too predictable.  A paradox that creates the most unusual fashion moments at times, but keeps me constantly searching for new inspirations.
