Oh some lazy days. Just what the Doctor ordered and this time I really must stick to the plan. I am one of those people who all too often falls into the trap of believing that having “down time” equates to laziness of the bad kind, and hence schedules up every moment of the day. But this weekend I plan to smell the roses and only give myself a bit of a “relaxing calendar” to make sure I don’t just keep on working! So here goes…
Sleep in. A sleep in for me is anything past 7.30 in the morning. If the clock hits 8.00 then that is excellent. Anything past 8.00 and I must be in a hotel somewhere away from poky little fingers.
Read my favorite blogs. There are so many old friends, and so many new ones. Now if only I could find an easy way to leave comments from my RSS Reader … (all suggestions on that one welcome).
More mending of vintage garments. No this isn’t work. I like to do this and plan outfits around each garment as it becomes wearable again. I suppose it is like breathing life back into something by intent.
Shop for some delicious food and plan something gourmet for a treat. One thing I am not is a gourmet cook. I generally don’t cook anything that requires more than 30 minutes work so I need to find something that is big on taste and impact while short on time.
Read. I am currently reading The Thoughtful Dresser by Linda Grant and so far…. WOW. BUY THIS BOOK NOW! I intend to send her a personalised thank you letter.
Treasure Hunting. I will be hitting up my favorite markets to see what treasures await me and my imagination. Not that I need more treasures, but the fossicking and chatting with stall holders does one good.

Ohh those cupcakes are so adorable! I planed to sleep in this morning but my usual paranoid brain had to wake me up at 6:15am and asked “is it the weekend or a weekday” but I did stay in bed until 8am reading ‘Delicious magazine”‘. I’m going to make some more homemade ice creams even though it’s 15 *C today…

ASAB: So far the plan is working. I even got to the market this morning although it was seriously foggy and about 5 degrees! Next up, some reading of design magazines and dreaming up more ways to spend the hard earned cash on the house!

Esz: You are right, that is one of the reasons I am always going to the main site too. I hate to miss out on all the hard work people have put into making it a lovely place to be.
Those cupcake deer are the best thing I have seen all day.
Ahh I dont mind visiting people’s blogs to do the commenting…otherwise I miss out on seeing people’s pretty sites. Reader is good for skimming, but the blogs I love (like yours) get a direct hit.

ooh I’m like you too, no good at downtime, I almost always end up working. Hope you have a sensational weekend. I’m with you on sewing/altering not being work, I love it and I always feel good afterwards – well unless it goes wrong!

OH those cup cakes are kawaii— I think your post “chill-out” gives me something to aspire too. Did I say the cup cakes are cute?
Oh can I recommend a lovely and simple dish:
chicken thigh fillets
a lemon myrtle to taste
damp paperbark (one per thigh fillet, you can buy these online or specialty stores), appropriately thinned
Bush tomato Chutney
macadamia nuts (crushed and blended into the chutney)
salt
oil for frying
butchers string
Sear the smooth skinned outer side of the fillets in a hot oiled pan, (or you can char-grill) browning one side only.
Remove from heat and cut a pocket in each fillet and spoon in the chutney.
Place the fillet, browned side up, onto the paperbark and wrap it lengthwise then folding the ends over the browned top side of the fillet. Tie up with the string.Put the parcel into a very hot dry pan,or over a char-grill and heat until it’s smoking.
Then continue cooking until you completely blacken all sides of the parcel.
Then leave to rest for a few minutes.
After the resting, remove the string and the paperbark ends. Cut them close to the fillet which should be browned side up. Unfold the rewmaining bark and fold back under the fillet.
Slice and serve with Roasted orange sweet potato(you can make a curried mango and pawpaw sauce for these that is DIVINE), marinated mushrooms (I have a different version if you are interested,
Lightly blanched snow pea’s (with a light drizzle of paper back oil is nice)and other assorted vegetables if you like.

You can serve the chicken cold too – refrigerate after resting and just slice them up to serve on bread, crackers etc
