Everyday Glamour Girl Makeup

Time for another Super Kawaii Mama tutorial! Due to an overwhelming demand and the eventual co-operation of my video software, I can finally bring you the video version of my everyday makeup tutorial.  This is the look that you will see if most of my Daily Outfit photos and is actually quite quick and easy to achieve once you’ve had a little practice.  I’ve spent quite a bit of time explaining my techniques so this tutorial is a long one, so long I’ve had to divide it into two parts, but doing the makeup won’t actually take the 20 minutes you see here!

Hi! Great tutorial! Im a reader of your blog from Sweden =) I wonder what product you use to color (the dark color) your hair? And which shade?

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Ellinor: Hello and welcome! The dark colour is a Loreal Castings product in the shade “Darkest Brown” It is a semi permanent colour that gives it good shine and gloss. My hair is about one shade lighter naturally, but I like to use it for intensifying the shade.

  • Good to see you are also a Laura Mercier fiend like me :-)

Great tutorials! You obviously have pretty flawless skin to start with. I’m a bit blemish prone and very much a liquid foundation girl. Do you think the powder would actually work to cover blemishes without looking cakey? I’ve been hearing so much about mineral foundation powder but still yet to make the leap.

  • Oh, if only I could! Love the tutorial but I amd still a acne prone teenager who goes to a strict school. :(

But hey that never stopped me from eyebrow gel and mascara.

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

ASAB: At least you get to wear mascara, that is great. I remember being checked over with a fine tooth comb by my strict teachers, then sent home to apply the cold cream and get rid of my mascara. Their eagle eyes used to be able to detect even that clear mascara!

  • To the commentor above me Rochelle is it? Yeah mineral powder is really good! But the Bare Escentual(I.D. Bare Minerals I think is what they call it at David Jones? But I’m not sure I bought it online). But not the revlon/maybelline stuff, it’s pretty much normal loose powder and contains so much preservatives!

The only downside is they don’t offer such a big colour range.

Sorry SKM, I couldn’t help answering the question… I’ve fallen for countless advertising traps.

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

ASAB: Yes, you are right. The Revlon stuff is appalling! The brush is like steel wool. I like ID Bare Minerals or Laura Mercier the best. For top result use the priming powder first.
Rochelle: I drink two liters of water a day and it makes all the difference. I’d use the Benefit Erase paste on the blemishes first, then you should be able to use the powder well.

  • Lauren says:

Oh you always look so absolutely gorgeous, I’m sure all the other school mothers must be so jealous when you breeze in looking so lovely (with much less effort than they perhaps think from how good it all looks!). Thanks for the simple yet really useful tutorial. I’m definitely thinking about putting in an order online with Sephora for some brushes and cosmetics myself as the prices here compared to the US can be pretty outrageous.

I was wondering, being in a younger age bracket myself, if you’d like to share some photos of your youth with us all? That is if you’re happy for them to see the light of day! I think it’d be wonderful to see what you looked like as a Super Kawaii Teen or even just to see how your tastes have progressed over more recent years.

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Lauren: Actually the others mothers have been lovely, once they figured out that I could be different without being entirely strange! ;) I did post some teen photos quite some time ago and you can see them all here. I’ve always been a drama queen. http://www.superkawaiimama.com.au/?p=109
Vintage Grrl: I’ve not heard of that brand. Is it available in Australia?

      • Lauren says:

Oh I do apologise – didn’t realise you’d posted pictures before! As one commenter said on that post you really have a beautiful timeless sort of look, perhaps because you seem to sit a little bit outside the trends so your clothes/make-up/hairstyles in those pictures don’t really give away the time period as easily. You look strikingly similar to when you were 19 except maybe with a little dash of extra maturity and grace that comes from having your lovely daughters. They’re lucky to have such a talented mum!

        • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Lauren: No apologies necessary. :) That post was ages ago and I don’t expect people to find everything by themselves. You are correct though. It is hard to pick the era as I did sit outside the trends at the time. I actually still wear both the outfits from the 14 and the 19 photos, now that is investment dressing for you!

      • Vintage Grrl says:

It sure is! I’ve used lots of ‘mainstream’ mineral powders before, and this is the first that truly feels weightless, whilst giving me awesome coverage. And the colour pigments are just so intense that it makes it easy to give a great look without using loads of product. I use the loose shimmer powder in a blue/black with some water for my eyeliner and glamour ’smudge’.

I recently gave my mother a 1920’s makeover for a ball she was going to. She didn’t let me go full ‘Clara Bow’ on her, but we were both happy with the result.

  • Vintage Grrl says:

Great video! My basic makeup is pretty much identical (products differing). Have you tried any of the Bella Pierre Mineral stuff? I found them about 6 months ago and just LOVE what they do. I haven’t thought to use gel for my eyebrows though, will try and find that Mabelline product for sure!

Thank you for helping to keep the Vintage Glamour ‘every day’!

    • Vintage Grrl says:

I wanted to add the colours I use. I cannot use any type of ‘pure’ browns on my eyelids, as if I get at all hot or emotional, they turn orange. I have to find pink based browns.

Base: Bella Pierre Mineral foundation – Ivory
Eyes: Napoleon #11 for base and BeneFit’s Mr. Right Now for contour
Liner: Bella Pierre Loose shimmer (with water) Refined
Brows: Bella Pierre loose shimmer Diligence (applied with lip brush – and don’t worry.. eyebrows aren’t shiny)
      Cheeks: BeneFit’s Dallas powder

(I have two favourite brands.. can you tell?)

      • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Vintage Grrl: What is this Bella Pierre and where can one buy it is Australia? ( I could Google it all but I thought I’d go straight to the source.) Ahh.. I’ve just gone back and found your Link. Thank you!
Poppet:Thank you so much. I did have to get a little braver to post a video with no makeup on! (Oh the horror) ;)
        M. Lady Finger: Thank you for the feedback. I’m finding it tricky to judge with my poor editing software at the moment, but new software is very high on the list at the moment. It seems that what I am hearing and what the final product is differs somewhat. even though it took much longer, I always feel it is important when giving instructions to explain the “why” and not just the “how”. Glad you enjoyed. :)
Icy: Do you mean the vertical creases? I’m not familiar with this technique..
Rachael: Thank you. Practice makes perfect, I’m sure you’re on your way.

  • Miz says:

Lovely! When I go for the simple yet glam look, I aspire to this.

Picked up some new tips too, so thank you!

  • puglyfeet says:

Thx — This is on my watch list on Youtube.

  • Marina says:

Hello darling, I’m a reader from Brazil and a big vintage fan. Love your youtube tutorials and blog, your a very sweet person and I like a lot the way you explain. I got scared how similar it’s my makeup routine.. almost just like yours!
I really like liquid eyeliner and I have oil skin and I’m very pale, so the powder foundation it’s the best for me. Have you tried mineral foundation, I just love it…
I really like the red lipstick on you but it does not stay good on me ’cause I have this: http://www.abocvel.com.br/imagens/31120081842341.jpg (sorry I didn’t find a translation).. the link it’s not a virus :)

So, that’s it.. I’m always following your blog and youtube, congrats!
    Kisses from Brazil! :*

  • Salla says:

Great tutorial. That make-up is gorgeous. Thanks for doing this! :) By the way, your hair is adorable.

  • Rachael says:

You’re gorgeous even without make-up! Thanks for the tutorial, especially that little bit with the lipliner, I’ve never been able to get it right. I love your blog, it’s wonderful!

  • Icy says:

Great tutorial, thanks! For my eyeliner I use the Revlon colourstay crayon in dark brown, which gives a great eye definition (my eye shape is quite different to yours). It also works spot on as an eyebrow pencil as well ^_^.

I’ve never tried a mineral powder, and I’m unhappy with my foundation, so I might give it a go. DJ’s here I come. I also don’t wear blush, but I’m thinking I really need some. And the beauty spot and eyebrow gel are great ideas, thanks!

With the lip liner, I also trace in the two creases on the top lip and the one at the bottom, which I find gives just a bit more definition to the shape of the lips.

  • Bravo! That was a wonderfully informative clip, thank you so much. The product list is v. helpful as well, and the end result is beautiful!
    Can I give you some helpful feedback? I hope you don’t mind?;
I find the background music just a touch too loud in your clips, and it can be quite hard to hear what you say. I often find myself ‘rewinding’ several times to catch what you’re saying.
It was a good idea to split it up over two clips. Us novices need slow, patient instruction!
Really though, your clips are wonderful and I really, really enjoy them.
Thank you Super Kawaii Mama xxx

  • poppet says:

    great tutorial!
I’m definatly going to give it a go. I love how fresh and classic you look (you even looked glamourous before you put any make-up on!)
    thanks again :)

  • I haven’t been caught yet but some girls have (but they wear so much!) I would die if I had to take off my makeup with that horrid stuff they have in the co-ordinator office.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear enough. I did mean the vertical creases; it just adds a little more depth of colour.

  • hammie says:

another beauty Super Mama and I have shared it on my FB to all the autie mums I converse with. Cannot get on board with powder foundation though? dont you find it very drying? I dont drink my 2 litres always and dont get anywhere near enough sleep, But I find that in this climate liquid compact – Lancome teint idole is my perfect weight. Excellent tips about the eyeliner. never got along with that !!!
And now I want to see how you put on falsies, I have a dream to look like a Bollywood princess, going to the shops so I need that huge eyelash look, With out sticking my fingers together

    xx

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Hammie: It must be a climate difference. I’ve never found powder drying, more overly I find liquid can get oily and rubs off on things. Also I like a matt finish and the bonus is that the powder cuts the application time by more than half!. I’m getting better and better with the falsies but I always find one eye easier than the other. Some days the damn things end up fluttering on my fingers more than the eyes.
