Here in Australia it takes a little longer for fashion’s “trickle down” effect to take place. Not so much when it comes to cutting edge street fashion, but for the high street stores to start the usual knock off process of the catwalks biggest seasonal hits. Without a Forever 21, (aside – they have a flat rate $35 intl shipping on orders over $100 at the moment!) Top Shop or the like, it takes a little more sleuthing to find the budget friendly versions of this season Balmain jacket. (This is probably lucky or I wouldn’t be able to put my children through school!)
At the start of this year when I began planning my Autumn Winter lust list, I came across these stunning electric blue booties by Peep Toe Shoes “Moulin Rouge”, but my lust went unrequited at I could not find them in stores anywhere near me. Still, they lingered at the back of my mind teasing me with their berry goodness. Imagine my surprise then when wading through a pile of junk mail, to find the twins of these snappy numbers. I was even more taken aback when I realised that instead of reading the higher end Peter Shepherd catalogue, I was flicking the pages of … KMart! Where the originals came it at a figure around $300, these babies came in at $59.95! Peep Toes Shoes though are a handmade and custom dyed product which accounts for their divinity.

Moulin Rouge Booties by Peep Toe Shoes

Booties by Candy shoes at KMart
Yes, there are some subtle differences between the two, but for all intents and purposes you are looking at a pretty similar design. The original pair are still divine, but the slightly lower and sturdier heel on the Candy pair make them even better for day to day wear. The only thing I would really change on the Candy pair is the lower scoop around the ankle as it is more flattering when wearing a skirt, but hey, they have still hit the pavement no fewer than five times in their first week in the wardrobe. I have to admit though, that should these have also come in the stunning blue, I would have been stocking up on more than one pair. As it is, they come in this purple and a basic black. So yes, I am very happy, but if a ribbon tied box arrive with a pair of my blueberry desires enclosed, there is a special space waiting for them too.

they are a really good knock off! so similar! let me know if you happen to find a Balmain military style jacket knock off that is that good.
I’ve been drooling over that one for a while!
I actually like the Candy ones better… My first pair off heels were Candy wedges heheh oh the memories..
XXASAB
If only I wasn’t “Blessed” with size 11 feet.
Kmart have some nice shoes at the right price ^_^ and the example above are lovely
WeedySeaDragon: Oh no! I remember seeing them in a size 10 but I don’t know about 11…
ASAB: They do do a good pair of cheap cute shoes.
Rebecca: As have half the fashion world! There have been some similar pieces but the best I’ve seen was USA target.
OMGOSH i used to fantasize about candy shoes as a kid! I loved them!
And since when did candy make decent looking heels? hehehe. i haven’t checked out candy heels since god knows when.
These are a great find!
I love finding a good knock off! Sadly sometimes my knock off pieces last longer than my brand names. Like my dishes from Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn seem to crack and chip after a few months, but my Bed Bath and Beyond basic dishes have been around for years!
Love the ruffles. 300 is too much for a pair of shoes (I would not want them too touch the ground at that price!!). Love the colour of the Peep-Toe ones a little bit more than the Candys. Well wear with your bargain find!
The color of the Candy pair is so much better. But the toe part of the original is way better.
Meream: So you see why I need them both!
Floraposte: I just noticed yesterdays that Wittner has another knock off in a similar view. they have the lower scooped front but also a lower heel again.
Amber: I know! My $15 ballet flats are still going strong and my $150 pair have died even though I wore the cheaper pair more.
A Dreamer: Well then you had better go check out the range. Some very nice on trend pieces at student prices. Perfect.
Lacy: Thanks for your comment. Although I haven’t approved it yet, I attempted to email you a response but it bounced back.
I’ve been hunting a similar pair of shoes for quite some time. The Candy ones look nicer to me – I like a thicker heel. It looks more in proportion to the shape of the shoe than the Peep Toe brand
Are the Candy ones leather or is that wishing too much?
Kmart, who would have thought !!
Waaah! Thanks for the great idea. I was just thinking to myself I needed another pair of booties ^_^
Hi, I’m new to your blog and I love it!
I actually just put a similar pair on layby – a read version from Wittner. I have no idea what to wear it with yet!
Michelle: Hello and welcome. I saw some at Wittner the other day too, but I must have missed the red pair! There is something magical about scarlet boots.
I can’t wait to put them on – any advice on what to wear it with?
