Dear Weekend

By Super Kawaii Mama in Uncategorized

dear weekend Dear Weekend

Every Friday we seem to think, “gee this rolls around fast!” which for many of you is a welcome relief from weekday tedium and dissatisfying jobs.  One of the great opportunities of each weekend is the chance to get our heads together, think about the week past, what we loved, hated and best of all- can change.  This Friday night, give yourself a little quiet time with a beverage of your choice, notebook and fancy pen. (Somehow writing things in ink gives them more gravitas).  Write down your loves, hates and most memorable achievements for the week.  Then start to plan the week ahead to include more of the things you love and a strategy for dealing with the things you hate.

For example – you may have loved the first warm blush of sunshine you’ve seen this week.  Seek to recreate that memory in ways that are within your control. Obviously we can’t make the sun come out on demand but things like olfactory (smell) memory help the process.  At the moment I am loving L’Occitane’s range of honey and lemon products because to me they smell like sunshine.

On the hate front, I’m not too keen on getting out of bed in the mornings at the moment.  So I’m tackling this by creating something energising to wake up to.  A big, fruit filled blended juice to help tell myself that I am a healthy human being. If I do this often enough, I may just be jumping out of bed like the enthusiastic morning person I am pretending to be.

As for things I’d like to see happen, well I’d like to talk to more of you.  Given just how many of you read this blog (the mind boggles), I wonder where you all are in the comments?  I’d like to meet more of you, find out what sort of things you’d like to see more and read more of.  Find out your thoughts on the things I write about and those I should.  You don’t need to have an account to comment, and you don’t have to be Hemmingway either, just a shout out is fine too.  Alternatively, if commenting isn’t your bag, you can always follow me on Twitter and ask away there.

This weekend, I am off to the country!  Heading up to the beautiful country town of Bendigo, to catch the final weekend of the Golden Age of Couture exhibition (this is your last chance to see it or see it again as it closes Sunday) and meet up with some super cool blogging friends. So I’m packing the bag and about to hit the road.  If you see me in town make sure to say Hi!

Hope you’ve pre-booked a ticket; i went a couple of weeks ago, and the queue was huge! If you haven’t try and get there early, and hopefully the line won’t be as long. I’m sure you’ll love it, the gowns are just gorgeous! There were so many I wanted to slip out of their display cases and into my handbag :)

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Liss: Thank you for the timely reminder. I did pre-book and it saved my life!
Melba: Fabulous exhibition. For day to day my favorite was the tartan skirt suit number and for evening… a hard choice but the emerald green was a real head turner.
Esz: Thank you – yes my style is my own, I think it comes with being comfortable in your own skin, knowing what suits and not being afraid to experiment and look silly on occasion. Of course living in Melbourne means we have a wealth of amazing resources too.

  2. Melba says:

It’s a terrific exhibition. My fave was the 1954 Digny Morton silk jersey and crepe de chine, with the beautiful, gorgeous draping and little cap sleeves that fell so liquidly.

And we managed to skip the queue because my mother walks with a stick.

    Hope you enjoyed!

  3. Esz says:

I promise to comment more often :-) Your blog is up there as one of my favourites and extra PLUS for being a fellow Melbournite. I love your style, and that you don’t follow trends or fit into any particular genre of fashion.

    the weekend calls again
how to answer not quite sure, however I think it may be the time to indulge in my new favourite dip……drumroll……toblerone dip

I learned this recipe from a darling friend Ms Alex, I highly advise you make this when you need a pick me up and some well deserved indulgence

    You will need
1 x 300ml tub of double or thickened cream
    2 x medium sized toblerone bars (125g i think)

Simply whip cream until firm and fluffy
Melt toblerone in microwave until nice and gooey (make sure not to overheat as this will make the chocoltae to think on burn the nougat) or alternatively you can melt using a double boiler like normal chocoalte.
Next fold the melted toblerone into the cream. Make sure you fold in the mixture instead or stirring as this will destroy the cream

Once folded in dip you fav mashmellows, fruit, etc in like a fondue

For a thicker version you can then leave in the fridge to chill

this is a great recipe that you can play with. So far we’ve added honey and honeycomb chips.

    Enjoy

Here’s your shout out :-) I love reading your blog!

A couple of years back I did a seven-month internship with Gwendoline Burkin in Fitzroy, I am sure you’ve been to her shop! I adore you style & I like reading about local things like Circa as they remind me of the wonderful time I had in Australia.

You’re an inspiration & I love your style!!

To start the weekend, I’m going to sit outside for a bit & treat myself to a manicure & some Lindt chocolate ?

    Anne-Rose from Amsterdam

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Anne-Rose: Yay! Gwendoline Burkin would have been an amazing time for you. I am spending more time these days investigating Melbourne’s gems, so I will make sure to bring you some special posts. And a bit of sunshine and chocolate sounds like the perfect way to start a relaxing weekend.
Jaede: Bendigo is such a treat, it really is over looked as a holiday destination. There will be lots more info to come about the weekend and the exhibition.
Alana: Hi there and nice to meet you!
Emer: You should check out her Flickr stream. There are some really fabulous shots of her doll collection. Too cute!
Rockabillygoat: Reading your comment leave me lost for words too! I love the weekend you have planned here, it sounds simply divine. Dancing, fancy pants clothes and making things. ahhhhh…
Wanderlusting: Top notch plan there. Too many nights in make it all a bit dull after a while. Shake it up!
Shan: Oh I envy your travels. We are still planning to head across some time later in the year, with the whole family this time, and hit Sanrio land and all the other cute hot spots. Well come to think of it, Japan is one huge Kawaii hot spot really. But with its natural beauty, fabulous food, culture and fashion – I tend to think it is like Disney Land for adults. :)

  6. Jaede says:

Have a wonderful time in Bendigo, I look forward to hearing about it.
    Tiki-Doll, Mmmmm cream and toblerone

  7. Alana says:

    Love your blog!

  8. Emer says:

Love the picture of that doll! So cute!

  9. Rockabillygoat says:

    WOW!
Text cannot convey how reading your blog makes me feel – *butterflies tumble in my stomach and my emotions climb out of the doldrums to feel incredibly invincible!!!*
I’m grinning like an idiot here in my cubicle because no one in the adjoining ones knows that I’m daydreaming of glorious weekend fulfillment :D

    * Friday Night pampering session for me and the Mr. – mannies/peddies, scrubs and masques

    * Saturday Afternoon – Lindy By The Bay (outdoor swing dancing) with picnic lunches

*Saturday Night – Dressing up! Rivierra Supper Club for dinner and drinks with friends

*Lazy Sunday – Chores and crafts mingled together at a leisurely pace set to great lounge music :D

Thank you for the pre-weekend pep-me up Super Kawaii Mama!!!

  10. I do need to write more. But tonight is the first night since mid-January that I have been to a bar or even socialized with people so I am SO OUT OF HERE!

  11. Shan says:

Finally I have a chance to comment! I became a huge fan of yours 6 months ago while living in Japan. I`m still in Japan travelling around but when I get back home I promise to post more comments x

  12. hammie says:

So jealous. Bendigo is only an hour from Ballarat. and now I want to go op-shopping with my two sisters.
Have a great weekend Super Mama – and Happy irish Mothers Day.
    xx

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

Hammie: I could have stayed for a week or two. Miss Four requested to stay for “52 nights please.”
And a Happy Mothers Day to you! One Ham-Azing woman for sure. :)

  13. hasoon says:

I like your Dear Weekend format! It’s just the right balance of formal/informal.

Do fruitblend drinks really make a difference to getting up in the morning? Rising from the bed is one of my least favourite things; I may well try it your way. Currently I favour Lady Grey tea to bring me to waking, but that’s a much gentler process than is sometimes useful..

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

I don’t know about the drinks really helping. They probably have far too much sugar (natural) which will always give you a high. So I’m trying vegetable instead. I think it is more about the process of standing in the kitchen blending something into a large glass – just like those scenes in movies where those uber health conscious Californian girls stand in the kitchen, all tanned and glowing, making smoothies with wheat grass to polish the halo of health. Trying to imagine myself into that state of alertness and vigor. :)

  14. The Peahen says:

SKM — Allow me to introduce myself in my first ever comment. I’ve been visiting yr blog for a few months and adore it. I like your new wkend feature although I’m not very good at taking your wise advice! I can’t go past a traditional daily outfit post — beautiful — and the stories behind the garments. Don’t change a thing about those posts. I also enjoy your style advice and wouldn’t mind seeing more. I frequently feel as though my life is a style emergency so I may be asking for your advice soon!

    • Super Kawaii Mama says:

The Peahen: Hi there and officially welcome! Thanks so much for your feedback. I do often wonder if the daily outfit posts are all a bit much, but that is really how this blog started and it seems to be very popular. I’ll have to make more of a regular date with myself to take more photos in my crazy life. I have a whole bunch of style posts coming up that are so good I can hardly wait!! But feel free to send through any requests as it always gets the brain ticking and perfect posts will follow. :)

  15. Well hello there,
Yes, I’m one of those long time readers but non commenters! I know how frustrating that is, so will attempt to drop by and say “hello’ more often.
3 mornings a week I get up, splash my face and go for a brisk beachside walk before work. The other 4 mornings I wake slowly with a hot bath and a pot of English Breakfast tea, whilst listening to the news on the radio. It’s bliss either way…..I love my morning rituals xxx

  16. Alicia says:

I loved this post. I think I will be implementing this come next Friday night.
