It has been a big week here at chez SKM, and I’m looking forward to a quiet-ish Saturday before hitting the ground running for the Official Loreal Fashion Week that officially starts on Sunday. While there are more parades and happenings than you can poke a stick at, in true SKM fashion, I’ll be seeking out the weird, wild and wonderful to bring you a little more of the diverse colour that Melbourne is known for. But before we get to the meat of the upcoming week, I’m taking a chance to pause and reflect on all the amazing things in the week past and get my ducks in a row for the next.
I was encouraged to see that after my Dear Weekend list last Friday, I actually achieved most of the things on it. The windows are now curtained, and the repro vintage dress I was working on is finally finished and had its first big outing last night. (Pictures on all that to come very soon.) And all this mental list making has put me in mind to actually recap on my week in a similar way. All too often I get to Friday night, break out the G&T’s and before you know it I can’t even remember what I did that day let alone for the whole week. Actually, the G&T’s have no effect on that phenomenon as it seems to happen regardless! So first of all here is what I have loved this week.
Making cyber buddies into real buddies
People who wear hats to cocktail parties
Random encounters with fascinating people who could be you in 40 years
Watching “Lost in Austin”, a rather amusing piece about a modern girl who swaps places with Elizabeth Bennett
Listening to people who are passionate about what they do
And here’s what I have planned to make my weekend wonderful.
Make up a huge batch of chicken and vegetable soup – for the soul – and bake some crusty bread to eat hot with butter.
Sleep in – and then take a nana nap.
Find someone to rub my feet.
Sit with Miss Four and cut out pictures of people and clothes she likes to help her make her first inspiration board – then find more treasures to add to the costume box.
Head in for some fun times at Worn Wild market on Sunday! Yay!
Remember you can leave links to your favorite things in the comments section or even let us know how your plans for last week worked out.
Okay, now it is your turn. Go!

No no, really Ms Lady – I love this! Love it! (Ok, enough fawning!)
I’m looking forward to:
? Having my whole family around for the weekend, plus meeting some cousins visiting from New York – hurrah!
? Finishing knitting a grey scarf in preparation for the cold, blustery weather being promised to Melbourne next week – glee!
? Writing my Literature essay: Women Writers and Modernity – who’d have thought it could be so awe-inspiring!
? Making some banana muffins – yum!
High points for the week gone include thrifting a tailored navy blue skirt for $1.75 and a fuschia blouse for $3, laughing uproariously at inappropriate jokes made in French, and discovering people are as delightful in person as I imagined they’d be!!
P.S. SKM, do you bake your bread by hand or bread machine? I’ve been using a bread machine, but feel like it’s cheating a bit and am on the lookout for a good handmade recipe. Any suggestions anyone?
Yes, I cheat and use a machine. I find it hard to slow down enough to actually revert to making it by hand, but it is a nice romantic notion. My mother used to and she used those “No Knead” flours and they worked a treat. It is a whole system that can be purchased from some supermarkets and bread supply shops. Sort of a cheats way of making bread from scratch, but lets you have the experience of watching it rise. hmmmm…
Hello there..
I saw you at Worn Wild today and you looked FAB!!! Wanted to tell you that but thought it might be somewhat akward coming from a total stranger.. then I stumble across your blog looking for pictures..it is meant!!
So yes, I have a red petticoat too, and thought you just looked great
Hi there! And thank you. Next time you see me, come and say Hi, I promise I’m not scary…. well most of the time.
Hmmm.
This week I…um…hmmmm.
*Discovered that running for 40 minutes is becoming rather easy and I’m starting to believe I can actually run the 10K next month (though I am still slow as hell)
*Discovered that I am not allergic to nectarines as previously thought (though I am to Peaches and plums) and now I love nectarines
*Fruit right now is expensive
*As much as I love dressing up, I tend to be happiest in a dress and flat shoes/boots. Slip on and go!
OK, maybe those aren’t all things I’ve loved this week but at least u got me thinking!

PS – this weekend I am looking forward to spending the night at my boyfriend’s parents place while they are out of town – gonna BBQ a steak (it’s steak and BJ day lol), get in the hot tub in the rain and have a merry old time!
Wanderlusting: Running 40 minutes – *Applause* – I think I’d have a coronary. And I love your weekend plans, very Lusty indeed.
Erin: You have wood paneling in your bedroom? Very unusual even for the 70′s. You should check out the Retro Renovation site (http://retrorenovation.com/)for some cool inspiration on how to work with homes of a more vintage era. Looking forward to checking out your finds.
Floraposte: Those tights sound amazing. Pictures to come?
Well, last weekend we got a lot done! We did tons of errands and I managed to exchange some clothes for 8 vintage patterns at the thrift store! You can see what I got on my blog.
I also fulfilled my intentions of sewing and made up two seat cushions and a door stop. Also on my blog
This weekend, I’m hoping to paint our bedroom. It’s the only room in the house that has been untouched and I hate it. It’s like a dark, cold dungeon with all that 1970′s paneling. Hopefully it will be a soft green by the time Monday comes!
This weekend I have to finish an assignment for my course (Boo! Hiss!); but still another one down! And its my own fault for putting it off over the last few days.
Off to my friend’s birthday tomorrow evening at which I hope to rock my fringed bebaroque tights!
haha, i’d write it, but it’d be boring for you!
i love the people who wear hats to parties, there should be more, more more
And the larger and more adorned the better!
Have updated the link…wow shiny new SKM! Love it…
Could do with the crusty bread and soup right now…
I’d package some up and send it to you as a get well gift, but I think it may not arrive too well. Have to get the nearest and dearest to make you up some.
