The weather here has been those perfect balmy Autumn days, where you just want to lounge around and take naps in the sun.  Real life unfortunately gets in the way of such pursuits.  Today’s Daily Outfit, is just that.  A simple day to day combo that sees me doing the school runs, paying bills and other such monotony; so it pays to have something a little bright to perk up the landscape.  Today you also get a mini peek into my sun room, complete with vintage couch and my latest project – the pinch pleat curtains.  So come into my parlor, and pour yourself a drink.

What a cracker of a weekend! There were a few things in the plan that didn’t quite make it,but those that did were fantastic.  I don’t usually give you a post mortum of my weekend, but just for something different, I thought I’d give you a peak into life as I know it.

Oh I have been looking forward to this one!  A weekend that is not jammed packed with activity, a chance to try and get on top of things ( I always seem to be doing that) and start planning lovely Autumn things.  While a good deal of you are watching flowers bloom and the first of spring sun, I’m enjoying the first snaps of cold as Autumn makes its arrival.  Here in Australia we aren’t so big on celebrating the seasons as they are in the USA.  Which means that we miss out on one of my favorite seasonal treats – the fragrant set.  You know, those hand lotions and candles that are made to smell like pumpkin pie and cinnamon.  We find the odd thing here, but it doesn’t have the saturation that it does in the States, where even your regular cereals come in for a seasonal special.  When I was last in Texas I found what has become my favorite scent – the Williams Sonoma Pumpkin pie range – and bought the biggest bottle of lotion I could carry. I’m sure that whatever it is made of it isn’t pumpkin, so it may not be the best for my skin, but YUM, does it smell fantastic!

So I may not be a Martha Stewart, but when these new seasons appear, I feel compelled to welcome them with a little appropriate nesting.  It is entirley possible I am dreaming here, as it has taken me a week to try and get my housework under control, yet somehow it still looks no different.  So maybe I’ll just toast a few cinnamon sticks and pull out some snuggly blankets.  That’s it – housework camouflage stealth!

And now to my optimistic list.

Finishing all the new tutorials I have for you! (Yay!)

Watching this movie.  I’ve been told that if you never took drugs in college, this will make you think you did!

Some crazy sugar induced fun at a children’s party.

Baking Lemon Myrtle muffins, ohh yeah.

Watching a new friend perform with her Burlesque troop.

Plan all my April adventures and itinerary so I don’t find myself  sleeping on a couch somewhere with all the hotels booked out.

Find a devious way to justify the killer Easter bonnet I have my eye on.

When hitting the road for a holiday, you’ve got to be comfortable, but still not look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards when you come to a rest stop.  So this daily outfit does just that.  Lots of stretch, some well placed accessories, and Bat Girl as my homie.  I love her stylized face and huge eyes, and that fiery red hair peeking out adds so much pop.  The skirt is super comfortable with its high waist and elastic fabric.  In fact I love it so much I have another in a different fabric way.

The whole outfit gives you a bit of an idea what it is like living in my head.  A complete mash up of styles, and making myself laugh with all the things I love.  I do still have a collection of X-Men comics.  I still wish my hair was manga blue and had that amazing swish that always stayed in.  Wonder Woman Barbie lives on the shelf in my studio reminding me of self induced twirling nausea.  And then there is the portrait of Louise Brooks feeding my passion for dark and smoky glamour, looking down from the pin board. I do love a good paradox.

Just when you thought it was time to put the credit card on ice, lock up the piggy bank and hunker down for some recession induced compacting behavior, a reason to think again comes along.  I don’t need to tell you that buying Vintage is the ultimate in stylish recycling.  Good for the environment, the bank balance and the soul.  So instead of saving those pennies for another petrol hike, walk and save them for this!

The Sydney Vintage Clothing, Jewellery and Textiles show!

There will be clothing from the turn of the century through to the 1970′s (proper vintage!), Flapper dresses, 1930′s glamour gowns, 1950′s New Look.  You name it, you’ll find it amongst this huge selection of vendors.  And jewellery, oh I’m so please about this as I have been searching for a particular set for such a long time and this just may prove to be my treasure island.  Even handbags, hats, lace, linens – I’m already feeling dizzy just thinking about the possibilities.

Even if your budget only stretches to an entry ticket, don’t miss this weekend spectaular.  There will be vintage hair and makeup demonstrations, (you can even book in to have yours specially done), swing dancing, fashion parades, guests speakers and a Best Dressed competition.
